The Center for Healthy Aging has suggestions for fall prevention.  With the fibro, I am very careful to move slowly and carefully.  www.healthyagingprograms.org/content.asp?sectionid=69  FYI

Me too, having RA, osteoporosis and 4 artificial joints, I can't afford a fall.  I put in hand rails in my bathroom, removed all throw rugs and other things that may trip me up -- now if I can only train my cat not to hang around my feet when I'm walkin'.
Cat sounds too cute!!!

Good luck on the "cat training"

I feel 3 times in a year and I finally threw away my favorite pair of sandals and haven't fallen since.  The toe of my sandal would catch on something and trip me.  Sometimes you don't realize why you fall and my culprit was the sandals.  I blamed it on RA, clumsiness, not paying attention, etc.  Lindy
damm I should have read that last night..as I sit here with my hand and foot in splints nursing sprains.  Buckeye, what happened?I was taking the dog for a walk and stepped on the edging of the sidewalk.  My ankle rolled into the edged area and down I went.  Fist of all my dignity was buised cause I couldn't get myself off the ground.  But,  I have a sprained ankle,  seriously bruised right knee and left wrist and a scraped up elbow.  All of those joints but the ankle have been replaced so there is a bit extra concern.  I get to pay a visit to my orthos and listen to them "lecture".  The first thing on my forbidden list is falling...oh well!!

Poor dog never did get his walk
Well, I'm glad you're more-or-less OK (except for the physical and mental bruising! I thought dog walking would be dangerous because of the dog and a leash, since they have a tendency to pull and wind the leash around poles and such, at least mine used to do that.  Understand your concern about the replaced joints because I'm protective of  my new knee.  I really hope that everything is fine, know your pride isn't but that's ok as long as your joints are okay.  Like Jas said, rest this evening and hope you have a good book.  Lindy LinB2008-06-21 15:00:04
Thanks

a good book and cookie dough ice cream!!!

My little dog is only 13lbs so his pulling isn't too bad and after I fell he was a very good boy and didn't run even though I didn't have hold of his leash
[QUOTE=buckeye] I don't even want to think about falling as when I did, in January, had to call the paramedics to get me up. Nothing like looking like a beached whale in front of these good looking guys. Now with my new hip and knee, I'm careful. The only thing is that my two cats like to get under my feet when I'm walking. They don't like it when I push them out of the way with my cane or when I tell them beep-beep.
The only problem I have with my floor mat is when it gets caught under the wheels of my walker! Plus I watch to make sure that there's no water on the floor to slip in as the cats will sometimes turn over their water dish to get my attention.
Please be careful as those falls can get us into trouble.

PS: Enjoy the ice cream.
I've sprained my ankle twice by tripping over cats.  I'll never figure out why they insist on running around someone's feet while they walk! I am sorry to hear that you fell, buckeye. I hope you heal pretty fast.

My cat does not run under my feet. Heck she does not even like following me at all. But she has been letting me pet her and hold her lately. Not sure why, but I do not really care, as long as she let;s me love on her a little each day.

I am still jealous that she loves hubby way more than she does me. I am probably her 3rd favorite person, daughter is 2nd and son... well... she likes him spurts of 4th and not at all.
