Pip
To think there are creatures living in the water that we have never seen before amazes me.Holy cow, that was freakin amazing!

The amazing diversity of life in our ocean waters and yet unknown life, makes a strong case for the need to protect our oceans and maintain the 18 year old ban on offshore oil drilling signed by Bush Sr.

Joie2008-06-22 10:14:17Not to worry Joie!!  The wells actually create an artificial reef which is a boom for marine life!  Fishermen love them!  Considering that their hasn't been a major oil spill in the US in 50 years, I think it's reasonable to not be too fearful.

But I think this isn't supposed to be about politics.  Just amazing video of God's creation!  Thanks for posting, Pip.
Thirty-nine years ago, in 1969, there was a devastating oil spill off Santa Barbara, California.  For 11 days, 200,000 gallons of crude oil flowed into the Santa Barbara channel and marred 35 miles of coastline.

This event propelled the 1981 federal moratorium on offshore oil drilling which banned drilling off 80% of U.S. coastal waters and has been renewed by every administration since 1981.

The fact that we haven't had a major oil spill since 1969, is due to the ban and tougher environmental regulations and industry standards.

With the call by this Administration to lift the ban on offshore oil drilling, I think it is reasonable to be fearful and to speak out against lifting the ban, as God's creatures in the ocean, have no voice.

Oh.  I didn't know about that, just a pip squeak in 1969.  Still, other countries, such as Austrailia, have successful off shore rigs that do not harm the marine environment.  I would guess that a lot has changed since 1969 as far as safeguards against blow outs go.  But we should end this here or start a different thread, I don't want to continue to mess up Pips uplifiting video thread. O-kee-doe-kee.    I thought you guys were being so ...wonderful!  Nobody was name calling or slinging mud or beating others over the head.  I just love us!

Actually, I was thinking of the Exxon Valdez and just now had my mind go - duh!  that was a ship.  My bad.

Hugs to all!

Pip

Ok, if you don't mind Pip, I don't mind.  :)  I just didn't want to, ya know, be a hijacker.

That is an amazing video! I love diving and seeing some of the most
unique sea creatures.
Isn't it mind boggleing when you think of the variety of animals on the planet?  And they're still finding new things all the time.  That's just crazy.
Isn't it mind boggleing when you think of the variety of animals on the planet?
I know... it's a damn shame the average person only gets to eat dinner 30,000 times.  Think of all the critters we're missing!

sorry, couldn't resist...
