Need Info/advice on increased platelets | Arthritis Information

Hello everyone.

Last week I had my blood work done at my Rheumatologists to make sure liver enzymes, CBC, etc. was normal.    My test results showed an increase in my platelets.  They were only mildly elevated. (150-400 normal and mine were at 411).  All other blood work looked normal.

My Rheum said not to worry, that it can be from the inflammation that RA causes.  I am slightly anxious as I just had blood work done three weeks ago and all was normal then.  Does anyone know if this number can fluctuate a lot with inflammation?  Is that a common side effect of MTX, I thought it can interefere with normal marrow fuction?

Any advice/info is greatly appreciated. I am a bit anxious over this.

Hope you all had a nice weekend.  I was off camping with my family and forgetting all about RA (and enjoying how much better I have been feelingAmya one time mild increase is nothing to worry about.  The platelet count is one of those that can safely bounce around which is one of the reasons for the large range.    it is far more worrisome to have a low count than a high one....relax with everything else normal its nothing to worry aboutThanks for your reply, Buckeye.  I appreciate it!Like you, my platelet count is always a little high the last few years.  None of my drs have ever gotten excited about it.  But, now that I have a mild RA dx, one of them said it might be slightly elevated due to my tendency for slight inflammation from time to time.  My sed rate has been as high as 35 and as low as 5, yet it seems the platelet count is always a little out of range.  After almost a yr of "wait and see", my dr has finally decided to try me on a trail with Plaquenil starting this week, along with the Celebrex.  Maybe that will bring it back to normal?

Amy, I posted earlier about the same thing.  My doctor is concerned because my platelets, wbc and crp are all elevated, not really high but elevated.  I am worried because he seemed worried.  I am going to a hematologist as soon as I can get appt.  just to put my mind at ease.
