It's easy to understand and empathize with Cordelia's struggles with this disease, but still hard to find meaningful words of encouragement.  I know many others share the same anguish and frustration.  I offer these words as my way of saying that I understand and hope today is a better day and that tomorrow will be brighter still.

Cordelia

By Alan Duncan

Sweet Cordelia, suffering spirit seeking release

A quiet solitude surrounding fragrant peace,

Drawn to a precipice of dark despair,

A yawning chasm of confusion to ensnare

A roving spirit that journeys, seeking light

That filters through courage eating fright.

I see and hear, and find in deep communion

A kindred soul, a spiritual reunion

Of companions sharing a dark, unsettling quest,

Seeking redemption and a quite place to rest.

In anguish, a brilliant light emerges,

In suffering, a primal beat converges

To flood our souls with restless energy,

Harnessed by urgent need to fight or flee.

Sweet Cordelia, open your eyes, empower them to see

A small beating heart that aches to be

Surrounded by your love’s embrace

Beating to the rhythm of your selfless grace.

A child’s laughter, warm tears flowing from muffled sobs,

Shrinking from the dark stranger that robs

Hopeful dreams and eager expectations,

Sucking air from joyful jubilations.

Rise to a dawn painted with new hope,

Embrace uncertainty, conspire to elope

Hand in hand with your life’s destiny,

Boldly sailing an uncharted sea.

Sweet Cordelia, we whisper encouragement,

A gift of hope from heaven sent

To purge dark shadows from your soul

And pay the beast’s ungodly toll.

Find rest, sleep, and dream of the day

When you and little Neve once more can play.
