I don't think the PT and aqutic therapy are going very well for me.

For whatever reason the PT's seem convinced I'm there for back issues. each time I come they ask how my back is,and many of the exercises are geared towards that.

Thursday I was in the pool, and she had me side step around the perimeter about 5 trips around.

My hips are in agony, hot, swollen, flaring, I've been thrown abruptly into a flare.. very tired, hands, wrists toes as well.

Can exercise CAUSE a flare? Is there ever going to be a benefit to going to PT? I'm feeling very miserable and craby as well. I took 15 mg of prednisone today and will taper right off.

I've been in pool therapy for 3 weeks now.  My PT says over stressing the joints is not good and will cause more pain.  I side step only once across, back, then forward, reverse, twice only.  Last week when in a flare, she did not even have me do that.  Just let me float....which really helped the pain afterwards.  She says "we're not here to cause you more pain".

Don't blame you for being crabby!!!

I had a hard time with aquatic therapy. I have alot of inflammation in my
chest and for some reason the pool aggravated it. I kept going for a bit
cause I kept hearing how good it was suppossed to be. Seemed to make
things worse. I guess I am just wierd that way.

Kathy,  I am so sorry but I would not think so black and white.  Tell your pt therapist that you are doing too much and he/she  is causing you to flare.  Express your concerns and let pt know you need to work your way up that amount of exercise.  I have found the water to be very therapeutic even in a flare but sometimes I just float.

PTs are just like RDs.  Some are really good at what they are doing and some need guidance.  Naw, they all need guidance.

I don't have RA I have fibro but I like to hang out here have great friends here.

But anyway,my RD said that my exercising is what brought on this major flare in my body that has kept me in pain since June. But then she says get back in the gym.

I am gonna take it slow.

You need to be sure and let PT know about your hips. That was the worse thing for you to do when your hips hurt like that.If you have to remind them everytime you go in for PT ,tell them I don't just have back pain...I have body pain and thanks to you I know have tremendous hip pain.

I hope you get to feeling better very soon.

I've only done one session of hydrotheraphy and I was totally worn out afterwards.   I fell asleep on the bus going home and missed my stop.
