Vitamin D | Arthritis Information

Mornin' all. I just found out my vit D level is exactly where it was in November. Low, like 23. Anyway I've been 1 50.000 u pill once a week now for 8 weeks. Has anyone else had this problem? Hopefully the #'s will go up now that I swim and garden more. Has anyone heard of RA drugs depleting the body of vit. D? There's been so much talk lately of the effects of having low vit D on the heart and other organs. Hmmmm. Time for research huh? Any input would be great. I hope everyone is having a great summer so far. I'm sorry for anyone in the flood zones here in the US. Very sad.

My vitamin d level was 22 back in early April, I wonder if it is from taking mtx or the remicade treatments?  I am on the large dose of vitamin d weekly.

It took me a little over a year to get mine back up to normal.  Have you tried getting your Vitamin D the old fashioned way?  10 to 15 minutes in the sun several times a week might help.. ..A fair-skinned person can manufacture 15,000 IU or more of vitamin D in as little as 30 minutes of optimal sun exposure.

Aging, RA, and our meds help deplete our store of Vit. D.  I'm on 3000 units daily.  It took 6 months for my to reach normal levels and I stopped D only to have the levels plummet again.  I'm on oral 3000 units daily and golfing in the sunshine and sitting in the sun 15 minutes every other day.  LindyThanks for the input ladies. And hello again btw.  I am outside a lot.  I have a 2 yr. old pup and a garden and pool to maintain. I do seek shade whenever I can I must admit but I know I'm getting plenty of sunshine. So it sounds like it'll take some time to go up to normal ranges. Right now I feel pretty good but the lack of the D shows itself w/ fatique I think. I also am worried about my lack of vitamin D but also a couple of my meds say to avoid the sun and tanning beds. I went fishing and was in the sun not even ten minutes and my legs broke out in huge red welts and I was burnt! I notice that some of you are also on relafen which one of the meds I take that say to avoid the sun. Doesn't it bother you or anything?
Just curious, I would love to be able to get a little sun. I look so pale and have had people tell me that all the time.
Hi Cindee, I get only 15 minutes in the sun every other day.  When I golf I use sun screen on my face, neck and arms but not my legs.  I get a very itchy rash if I'm in the sun for longer than a half an hour without sun screen.  Lindy  Lin, what spf do you use for your sunscreen? I wonder if I get one around 15, if it would help me get some color but not break out with hives???? Just I will just have to try and see.
thanks for the info
My level was 19 and I'm on 2400 IU a day plus I'm taking cod liver oil daily. I'm gonna get my level checked in 3 months. My level was 26, and so my RD prescribed 50,000 IU to be taken weekly for 2 weeks!  2 little pills, can that really be enough to get my levels back up?  I'm taking 1000 IU/day now but I was doing that before my levels were tested and obviously it wasn't working. I'm going to try to get more sun on my lunch hour.  Seems like low vitamin D is at epidemic proportions...My doc just emailed me and is happy w/ all my other labs (all numbers have gone down), but to take the big dose once a week of the vit. d another 6 months. So it does take awhile to get the #'s back up. I broke out in the sun more when I was on sulfa drugs than I do now. I use lotion that has spf 15 in it and then a stronger one for swimming. But every once in awhile I have one too many cocktails while swimming and get a little burnt. I like a little color but I know I have to be careful. Hi
I have RA...Diagnosed in 2003...
My V.D is low...I took the V.D last night  with food..
Kinda made me feel sick...Is there a better time to take it...

I'm so glad to have found this board....
hey twilight, I take mine w/ everything else I take in the mornin' w/ coffee n toast. When I go in the sun my cheeks turn red as a tomato.  Is that from the Prednisone or the Methox.  I can't stay in the sun to long or I start cooking.
