Fish oil-Vitamin E-Anyone Tried this? | Arthritis Information

Hi Everyone,

I saw this blurb in an article I was reading....

"The combination of fish oil, with its omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin E appears to help restore the balance between pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines.higher doses (54 mg/kg/day) offering more relief of symptoms than lower doses (27 mg/kg/day). Patients also required fewer NSAIDs after 3 and 6 months of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation. "

Has anyone tried taking Fish oil or Vitamin E?  What is the dosage you're taking? What are your results?

I'm trying to decide whether to try it out or not.

Thanks!
I take 3 grams/day of omega-3 (about 10 regular fish oil capsules).  With regular use, it greatly reduces my pain and inflammation - not just of arthritis, but also from "Aunt Flo."  It's not without potential adverse reactions - blood sugar fluctuations, prolonged bleeding time, increase susceptibility to infection... but all in all, the positives for me outweigh the negatives.  Be sure to check with your doctors before taking large doses of fish oil or any other supplements. I take 6 1200 mg capsules daily, as well as a multivitamin and extra C and E.  I have been feeling quite well lately and I credit it to fish oil, a gluten-free diet, no red meat and as much exercise as I can - walking every day and Curves.  My shoulder started hurting last week but never escalated into an all-nighter - I haven't had one of those since early May.

My RD says that my RA is acting palindromic, but it is not palindromic RA, just not full-blown RA, which she insists will happen someday.  Good thing I don't believe her!
Thanks guys! I was curious if it really works. I may run this by my RA doc next time I visit. My doctor put me on this several months ago. He thought it would be good for my cholesterol. I was having bad skin issues also. Helped with the inflamation. But it also does regulate your thyriod and blood sugar. I got low blood sugar and cut the dose back. I was taking prescription fishoil so alot more in a pill then what you get over the counter. If i took the meds as prescribed i would get really tired by day three. So i would have noticably less swelling but was to tired to enjoy it. That maybe because my blood sugar was just to low. And it got really low.
How long did it take you to build up to this level?  I'm taking 570mg/day and it does wonders for the bowel but tried to increase to 2 capsules a day and had minor adverse effects.  Any suggestions? I take enteric-coated capsules (sometimes called "delayed release" or "odorless").  This lessens the adverse effects in the stomach and also increases absorption.

I just gradually increased the dose over a series of weeks until achieving the desired level.
