Mouth sores | Arthritis Information

I woke up yesterday with a very painful mouth sore, I thought it may be a side effect of my medicines, but the info sheets did not mouth sores as a side effect. Anyone else get these, know what causes them? It is an ulcer/canker sore, I've never had one before. Is it an AI or RA thing? Or am I just unlucky? Only meds I take at the moment are Tylenol Arthritis, Relafen, YAZ,  and Toprol.  I've got one too, but I dunno why.Try some folic acidI used to get canker sores on occasion even before the meds, and my understanding was they can be caused by an injury in the mouth, like biting on the inside of your cheek, or you can get them when you're a bit run down.  AI diseases stress your body and Lord knows, you have enough on your plate to cause lots of stress even without AI issues.  It may be as simple as that.   I heard stress can cause it but I have been less stressed lately since hubby finished his dissertation defense and feeling some better pain wise too. There's no way it was from biting myself, it is on the gum line between my lip and gums, right there in the crease, can't reach that spot to bite it. I'll just get some canker sore medicine and hopefully that will dull the pain until it heals.

Don't know why you have them.  Usually they're caused by MXT and that's one of the reasons that Folic Acid is prescribed.  I've been on most of the RA meds in the last 10 years and I've only had one canker sore.  I started to rinse my mouth with a diluted 3:1 mix of water and Hydrogen Peroxide 3%.  Rinse for about a minute and spit it out. It keeps the mouth sores from forming, helps with plaque, and whitens your teeth.  I go to the dentist every 6 months and it hasn't harmed my teeth.  Lindy

I have always been prone to them and now even more so on the MTX. I will try that peroxide rinse. Right now I use warm salt water to rid myself-I used to get them frequently until I started taking extra Super B's vits.  For years I didn't have them.  Now, sometimes I get water blister like things in the soft palet on the roof of my mouth that turn into sores that last a few days.  I dkon't know what causes them, but I bet it has something to do with AI diseases. I refuse to accept they are RA or drug-related.
I'm going to assume they are caused by a lack of chocolate and increase my intake.

If the sore is up in the fold of the mouth, it's a canker sore.  Herpes sores are typically on the gums themselves.  Is it ulcerated?  White in the center?  Is it very painful?  Call your dentist and ask them if they have a product in their office called Debacterol.  It is a liquid  topical treatment that they can put on the canker sore and it will IMMEDIATELY bring relief.  It burns for just a second, but after that, it's gone for good.  If you or any of you are very prone to them, ask your dentist to keep it in stock for you, and go in when you get one.  Basically, it cauterizes it and you walk out pain-free.  Amazing product, but needs to be administered in the office by a hygienist or dentist.

Increasing your folic acid can help prevent you from getting more, but if you are typically prone to them, you are going to get them no matter what.  OTC drugs like Kankaid are ok, but the Debacterol is the only thing I have found works immediately on my patients.  And I really mean immediately and gone.
