I went to the doctor today. I told him that I have been to this site, reading posts and research that people post here and that from what I could tell anyone who ever goes into remission is on methotrexate. I have refused it before mainly because of the frequency of bloodwork and the fact that I have no veins. He looked at my hands, said something about me still being swollen, asked how long I'd been on Humira and I told him. He said how I am now is about as good as I will get without methotrexate, so he prescribed some. It's still in the bag. As others here have posted about medications, I want it but I don't want it. I stay nausous most of the time anyway and I expect the mtx to make it worse. I think I'll wait til Monday cause I have to work this weekend. Someone new in the lab today, like I said, I have no veins. I have one "good" one. Would she listen to me? NO. She finally did after tring to hit the place I told her to at the wrong angle over and over and over. UGHhhhhh.MTX did not make me feel ill or anything like most of the side effects people talk about. SO, maybe it will not cause you any side effects.

Don't you just HATE IT, when the vampire does not listen to which is the "Good" vein and then they just keep trying to wrong ones?

Let us know how the MTX goes!
Don't despair Wendy.
Take your MTX after eating. My doctor also has me on a prilosec a day and I have never had stomach problems. I only have to get blood taken once every 2 months. Do they use pediatric needles on you? I know a few people who have trouble getting blood taken and that's what they say they have them use.
I have had good success with the way I feel and my blood numbers after being on MTX.
Good Luck!
Hi Wendy
I never had much troupble with mtx - especially after my RD reminded me to take it after eating.   Tired, yes - but no stomach issues, so maybe you'll be lucky as well.  If Humira alone is still not taking care of the inflammation, it may be best to tackle it further by adding mtx to avoid any damage.   Good luck.
I never had stomach problems with MTX either, but I broke up my dose throughout the day.  It was some of the best information I ever got here and my RD approved it.   You can also switch to injections if you  have stomach issues.  Injected MTX gives you more bang for the buck and bypasses the stomach altogether.

Congratulations on taking what may turn out to be a very important step in your medical regimine.  Many of us swear by MTX, as much as we hate to take it.  Good luck and feel free to ask any MTX related questions you may have.
This is a big step for you and I'm hoping that the MTX will kick it all up a notch.  I never had stomach issues with MXT.  If you think you will, you probably will.  There's as many, if not more of us that haven't had nausea.  Go for it.  LindyWendy, when I started Mtx I had mild nausea, it came and went. I increased folic acid and it has not been a problem. good luck.Thank you all for your words of encouragement! I'm hoping that this gets me over the hurdle too. Then maybe I can cut back on some of the other meds I take. I went from taking Prilosec and Ambien two years ago to taking about 8 different medications a day! The Humira has helped some and maybe the methotrexate will finish "Old Arthur" off, at least for a while.Good Luck Wendy!
