my son might have JRA a few ??? | Arthritis Information

Hi,
My name is Laura and I am looking for information about JRA, my youngest child is showing signs of JRA, he is very grumpy upon waking and he has some growths on his elbow area, his heel and his hand/finger.  We have been to almost 10 different specialists to try to figure out what is going on with him and I was hoping that someone here might be able to help...... I am not sure if this will work but I am going to try to post a link to a picture of his arm. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj64/oldeschoolknits/-MediaCard-BlackBerry-pictures-IMG0.jpg

From researching it seems that the lump might actually be a rheumatoid nodule but I haven't yet met anyone who has had one of these so I am not sure if that is really what it is, we are going the end of July to the Rheumatologist at Boston Children's Hospital but I am so worried that because Finn has been suffering from all of this since last summer we are wasting too much precious time.  I was looking on the web and found this site and I am hoping that someone here might have some advice for us.
Thank you so much for reading,
I'm so sorry your family is going through this, but it is not unusual for it to take awhile to get in to see a pediatric rheumatologist and even then, diagnosis came take awhile while they rule out other things.

Your pediatrician might be able to offer an anti-inflammatory in the meantime, to help with pain.  Make sure to ask if the dose will bother his stomach - ped rheums also rx Prevacid or something with the doses they use.

You can try calling the office to see if they have any cancellations or if they will put you on a cancellation list.

Best wishes and I hope you get some answers soon!

Hello, my name's Hannah, i'm 14 and was diagnosed with JRA a couple of months ago, mine began in my heals, the in my toes, then my hands began to swell up, especially my nuckles and fingers. I don't know if this is much help to you, but i do have about 3 Rheumatoid nodules on my toes, which do look almost identical to his, feel free to send me a message. Hi i have severe JRA in all my joints and i have nodules on my knuckes. I would suggest giving your son ibuprofen for the pain and inflammation and seeing if that helps and going to your doctor and ask for a bloodtest to check his CRP (C Reactive Protein) this protein is produced when there is inflammation so it is a pretty good indicator of whether someone has arthritis or not. Thats how i was diagnosed.
Hope this helps.
