HI guys, I haven't been posting or reading much as I keep getting debilitating headaches from MTX, always happens when I get around 10 - 12.5mls a week.  I wake up with it and I fall asleep with it, I am enjoying the benefits of the MTX and I don't want these damn headaches, I am taking my folic acid regularly and I am topping up my Oxycontin with Tramal and panadol every 4-6 hours.  Any input please.

By the way, Liam my son is still on painkillers for joint pain and still has episcleritis, has to wait until Sept to go back to Paediatrician.  He feels it could be something developing possibly JIA, Chrohns or ulcerative colitis, or AS.  I feel sorry for him as he is in pain most days and I feel helpless, it is bad enough us waiting for a diagnosis as adults but children is another case all together!!!!!!  Just to lighten the load, my hubby fractured his wrist and may need surgery this week, he is not working as he can't, and he can't drive so I am trying to do a lot more but I am exhausted and in more OA pain from driving etc, which I shouldn't really be doing at all.  Kind regards Janie.XX

Wow Janie..you sure have it all going on at your place.! Hope all goes well for your son, it must be a huge worry for you. And your hubster about to have surgery too...sacre bleu!

Hang in there...it can only get better Im sure.

I cant offer any advice with the headaches from MTX but is your Doc or Specialist able to prescribe something stronger than Panadol?

Hugs to you

Lyn

sorry about your son, janie  :(

try taking a dose of a cough med w/ dextromethorphan (sp?) a couple of hours before you take MTX.. and then again after as needed.  the RD told me that and I don't get the headaches any more... oh.. and drink loads of water!!

Oh man when it rains it pours! Hope that storm cloud moves this week for you!Hi Janie,
So sorry for all your hard times.  Keeping my fingers crossed (ouch) that it gets better.
I am sorry Janie. Hope all goes well for your hubby.

Much hugs to you
Mucho gentle hugs, Janie.  You have your hands full.  Do you have any family in the area that might help out?  I'm so sorry for the triple set of problems.  LindyHey Janie. I have had debilitating headaches in the past, more than 5 years of daily ones...so I totally can relate to how you must be feeling. Not that I want to promote another med but something that helped me tremendously was Nadolol...it is a betablocker and has been a life saver for me. I rarely get a headaches since starting this med. I'm not sure it will help through the MTX but it may be worth considering.    I hope you get on top of them as I know just how they can limit a person.

I also want to add that another consideration is how many of your headaches are rebound from some of the pain meds. lorster2008-07-07 10:02:45wow...you've had a lot going on, Janie...hoping that things calm down for you and your family soon!I'm sorry all this is going on in your life right now.  For the headaches, I would try loading up on lots of water the day before taking the MTX.  It worked for me when I was on it.

HI JANIE!!!!! Wish you were feeling better. Ann is right. Supposedly lots of water helps with your folic acid. Also are you on the injectible. For some people that is more tolerable.

PS My old computer crashed and now I have a used MAC. My first MAC. Problem is - I forgot my password to my email

I am doing much better with better weather. I hope that is helping you. My doc kept upping my folic acid when I could not tolerate MTX. Maybe keep upping folic acid with lots of water. Hope you feel better soon.

Love youAwwe Janie, my heart goes out to you and your son.  Headaches, on top of your other stresses will surely be wearing you down.   I wish I knew of a miracle cure.   The only thing I can suggest is trying some Bowen treatment?  It has helped a friend of mine who suffers from migraines immensely.  It is a bit of a weird therapy but hey, if it works it's worth it.  I had two sessions on my feet but sadly it didn't help.  The therapist warned me before I spent any money that RA doesn't usually respond that well to it but I wanted to try it.

Hi guys, thankyou all so much for your replies and suggestions, I will certainly give them a go.  Yes Roxy, I am on the injectibles and MTX does work to a certain degree but I never get past this dose and usually end up with chest infections and have to stop it for a while, so I am trying to keep well, so as not to stop it, but I tell you what I feel like stopping it this week due to the headaches, they are becoming unbearable.   You are all so helpful, I really do appreciate it and wish you all painfree happy days!  Love Janie.
