Synovectomy | Arthritis Information

Hi All:

I had a synovectomy on my left knee about a month ago. I just wanted to know if anyone else has gone through this surgery and what their rehab was like. I just started putting all my weight on the left leg again, but I noticed that my bend is still at 90 degrees. It can go farther back but only after having a therapist work on it with me and they push it back (at the most it might get to 95 now). I am just starting to get worried, thinking that if it doesn't get back to it's normal range of motion that I might lose the ability to bend it so far forever. I know this might be a silly thought, but it is my first surgery ever and I had no idea what to expect from it.

Also the doc I am going to know after the surgery brought up the possibility of needing to go back in there to remove some blood from the top part of my knee. He couldn't tell me exactly what the problem was but only said that when he tried to extract the blood from that area that it wouldn't come out because it was "cake-like", then said yes that it would go away over time but then back tracked and said it might need to come out surgically if it doesn't start decreasing within 6 weeks.

Thanks for any help in this matter.

I had that done way way back in the 70's.. as a child w/ JRA.  The ortho went in and scraped out all the "disease" and rebuilt my knee cap.  I was 12 y/o.

I did some physical therapy.  but, my parents couldn't afford to send me anywhere so we got the exercises and a nurse friend came over and helped me. I don't have range of motion beyond 90 degrees. I don't know if that's because of not doing enough PT or what.  It's been 38 years since surgery.
I did  not have much discomfort in that knee for a long time following surgery.  Though it is now, one of my weakest joints since the return of RA.
Keep working on the bending.... if not you'll have scar tissue built up that won't allow you to bend all the way, like I have.
my best to you!

I have never had this done but it has been mentioned that this surgery may be in my future (for my wrist).  I hope you get the info you need!
