Daughter starting MTX injections today | Arthritis Information

Hi
My daughter is MTX injections today . She has been on the pills for 3 months but had too many side effects so now we are ready to start the injections.
questions:
any helpful hints for t he injections themselves?
can she eat before or after the injections or should she wait the hour like with the oral?
thanks !
how is she doing? i just started the MTX injections friday. I was never told to avoid food at any time with either the oral or the injections.  In fact, when I was taking the pills I always made sure I ate plenty of carbs to coat my stomach and had no issues that way.  Maybe that's why she was having side effects, especially stomach problems.  But the injections will probably be more effective anyway.

After she wipes the skin w/alcohol where she will do the injection, make sure she waits for it to dry to avoid an alcohol sting.   Pull a little extra MTX into the syringe so you can inject a little to get rid of any air bubbles.  And pick a fleshy area for the injection site.

Good luck to your daughter.  I hope it helps her feel better.

well after some trial and error with the shots she is a pro now.
she has been on the injections for about a month and the side effects have almost completely disappeared. Its great ... with the pills she was sick for almost 3 days .. hair was falling out , sores in her mouth ,etc. but with the injections she has had none of that . she is doing really well and we see the doc on Wednesday ...last year at this time she could barely walk .. now she is almost her old self :-)
LOL!  I didn't look at the date of your post!  I usually frequent the RA board and those posts are always current.  I forget that these other topics get less use.  I'm really glad everything worked out so well.  Thanks
yes a little delay here
but if your reading this I am happy to report that the injections have been a godsend
she is really doing well
I keep my fingers crossed that it stays that way
it has been a long time coming
she is only 14 and it has been a long road to figure it all out.
but.... she is playing her sport and feeling great!!!
