Hi guys, hope you are all having a pain free day - yeah right, I wish that was possible!!!!!

I wanted to ask you all if you have widespread pain despite your treatments including your normal pain relief, have you ever had a steroid injection for your whole body?  Is that possible?  I intend to ask my GP tomorrow as today has been awful painwise.  I do have Tramal injections available as an alternative but it doesn't seem to do much, does anyone know which would be better?  I am on Tramal 50mg 4x a day, panadol 500mg 2tabs - 4x a day, and Oxycontin 20mg 2 x a day, also Endep 125mg per day and Paroxetine 40mg per day, so the pain should really be covered but unfortunately some days, most days if I am honest, it is not enough.  HELP!  Regards Janie.  PS I am also on 12.5mg MTX, but I don't want it tomorrow, because of terrible relentless headaches. BUMP janiefx,
I am newly diagnosed and I am currently only taking Prednisone and diclofanac with tylenol 650 for the pain. The pain meds don't work. Mostly they just take off the edge. Today for example is one of those horrible pain days and so far the pain med hasn't worked. When I see the RD in 2 weeks I will ask about better pain control and what medicines I can take once I start the Plaquenel. I have done one steroid injection e few years back for another ailment and in 3 days time I was in pain again. So I can't say really if they work or not. I don''t know if there is a steriod infusion or injection for the whole body. Let us know what your GP says.Janie, the usualy tramadol dosage is 100mg up to 4x/day... you might want to talk to your doctor about bumping up that dosage.

I've never had a steroid injection, but I have taken oral methylprednisolone (Medrol dosepack) for flares.  Works wonderfully.  I imagine an injection would work wonders as well, without the bother of having to keep track of when to take all the pills in the medrol dosepack.

I want to say they call it a synthetic cortisone injection? Not sure about that; but they give it to you in the hip and within about 24 to 48 hours I have been able to get a good bit of relief from it. The majority of the time I've had them we've either added a new medication that day or increased my dosage so by the time it begins to wear off the other medication has begun to work. They've been good for me; but other's have no change at all from them.

Is MTX the only DMARD you are currently on Janie? I don't know all those meds but it looks like Predisone and MTX are the only meds besides pain meds. Is that correct? Will they give you cortisone injection considering you've had so much problem with fractures? I guess if they'll let you continue taking predisone long term considering your repeat fractures they don't consider that a problem. Haven't you tried one of the biologics yet? I thought I remembered you taking something else.

I hope you're feeling better soon.
Hi Lovie, yes they are the only RA drugs I am on as I can't tolerate any other dmards, I can't come off of pred as I can't get out of bed without it.  Can't take antiinflammatories due to GERD and awful tummies.  I might ask GP for 100mg Tramal 4 x a day but I think she already said no to that as she is concerned about seretonin syndrome.  I will let you know tomorrow what the outcome is.  Thanks again, Janie. Hi Janie. I have had cortisone injections in my hips when they become really bad, but honestly the pill form prednisone works much better for me overall. On days that seem overwhelming, my doc has me bump it up and that works wonderfully. I hope your doc can help and that you can get some relief soon.Janie; You've tried Humira or Enbrel? Hi Lovie, yes, have tried both, and most recently tried Orencia, anaphylactic reactions to all.  Wish I knew what to do next.  MTX is working to a degree but always have to stop it due to chest infections or terrible headaches, about to stop it tomorrow I think.  Thanks for any suggestions, regards Janie. Janiefx, sweetie, I feel so badly for you. I have never had an injection like you are talking about, my Rheumy doesn't do them. It does sound like you need to adjust/change your meds. When do you see your rheumy next? If you can get in sooner then try, or at least put in a call. Sometimes with oxycontin, you can take vicoden without tylenol in it as a little boost for pain, but it sounds like your RA is not being controlled by your meds currently, so that needs to be addressed. I will be praying that you find relief soon.

Take care sweetie!
