I stopped by the job site - hotel being built - and as soon as I pulled up the gentleman who interviewed me ran up to my car and said he was just about to call me. I got the job! Well actually, not the job I applied for, which was front desk, it is actually head of hospitality. He said he needed someone with a great smile and lots of enthusiasum to greet people in the mornings as they are getting their breakfasts. He wants me to put it all out and then just smile and be pretty for the next few hours. He said this was the most important job he has because breakfast is what sets the tone of the hotel and people leave with a good or bad  hotel experience based oh that. Also, They are hoping to capture the military crowd for their big meetings, change of command ceremonies, wedding receptions, etc. So I would be overseeing all those scheduled events. Is he feeding me a bunch of hooey???? He made it sound like it was much better and more important than front desk, but I am curious. He said I could still do front desk if I want and will train me for that anyway for emergencies. Oh, and I will have a support staff that will be doing the clean up afterwards, so I don't have to deal with any of that.

Arriscolwell, I know you work in a hotel, what do you think? I am very excited,  but I have never done this type of work at all - ever. I go in later this morning to fill out paperwork and talk money and then I start on Monday getting everything cleaned up and ready. I know this is short notice, but I have no idea how much to ask for. Any clues?

Thank you all for your prayers and help in dealing with the jerk at my las job who forced me out because of my disabilities. I never did hear from the woman who was investigating him, but I am not going to waste any of my precious energy on that, but focus on what has opened up to me instead. God works in mysterious and wonderful ways...

Thank you all
deb

That is wonderful news! I have never worked in a hotel, but I have spoken with hospitality mgrs before in them, so I am sure they are legitimate. ! I am so happy for you! i hope you love it!
That sure is wonderful news!!! Sounds exciting and good on you for putting the other job out of your mind.

I have worked in Hospitality for 30+ years but cant advise on anything to do with pay rates over your way Im afraid. If I can help with anything else just yell out OK?

Hope all is settling down for you and the family.

Cheers....Lyn
Deb...
I worked in the hotel industry my entire adult life.  If you don't mind me asking what hotel brand are you working for..that way I'll be able to give a better answer
Deb,
That certainly is good news for you. God sometimes closes one door just open up a better one,
I've never worked in that field so I can't shed any light there but I do wish you the best of luck.Yay for you!!!! :) Pay scale? I have no idea - depends on the area you live in really. Sorry I can't help there.

I'm curious what brand hotel you're working for now. We TRY to have someone greet people at breakfast, but it's usually just someone from sales or upper management. What you're doing IS really important, for the exact reason he told you. First impressions are everything!

GOOD LUCK! And e-mail me if you need anything, it's arriscolwell@gmail.com

Buckeye, the hotel is Comfort Inn and Suites, but this one is very different from the others. It is built on the side of a mountain over looking a part of Puget Sound. It is much more elegant than the others, in that it is all done in marble and mahogany. It has sculptures and a huge waterfall in the lobby and both sides of the hotel are solid glass to enjoy the mountain views. downstairs will be a 9,000 sf grand ballroom, and there are numerous boardrooms and an indoor pool with a ceiling that revolves open on nice days. there is lots of other space to be used. I've suggested maybe hiring a kennel attendant for pet care downstairs and away from all the rooms and also a library where guests can go to read or borrow books and maybe board games for children - both ideas he seemed to like.

so.... what do you think?

Congratulations!  I don't know much about the industry but it sure sounds like beautiful surroundings.  Lindy

That's awesome Deb!! Congratulations. I'm so happy for you. This sounds great!!

A fresh new start. And a great start at that. This job sounds so much better than your last one.

As far as salary goes; I'd hear them out. Their likely to make you an offer and you can decide to just accept it or ask for something more. They might just offer you a lot more than you would ask for so I'd let them make the first move if possible.
That's great news!!  Congratulations!I think you have some questions that need to be asked to clarify.  The breakfast thing is similar to a concierge position...and the GM is right if you screw up the free breakfast its amazing how annoyed people get (just keep the coffee hot and freash!!).   A breakfast concierge for my company would run from - an hour.
The questions I would have is what does he mean by "overseeing the events"  what exactly does he expect you to do for the events.  How he defines that roll and exactly how  your time will be divided will have impact on your salary
Oh Deb, how exciting! It sounds like a fun and exciting job. Always something new, with new guests and possibly exciting events to arrange.

Also, it seems that people on vacation are usually in a good mood. At least, I am in a good mood when traveling

Good luck, Sweetie! Please let us know hows it goes. It could be a wonderful, new start for you!

Hugss, Nini
