MSM for RA | Arthritis Information

Hi, I'm new to the board, but not new to RA. I've had it for 25 years & I'm hurting (I'm 49 y.o.). Anyway, I met a lady who said she went into remission taking 8 grams of MSM a day. Anyone out there tried that high a dosage?

Hi....no i have never heard of anyone taking that high a dosage. I take MSM and Glucosamine sulfate combined but I believe it is at 1500 mg a day...MUCH less. What other drugs have you tried/are on?

Brit

I'm taking methotrxate with folic acid. I just started back on it. I was off it do to insurance problems, and boy I'm hurting now. Other supplements I take are fish oil and glucosamine, also SAM-e. I think the high dose of MSM is worth a try, so I'm going for it. I heard it can take a few months to totally kick in.missy, hello and welcome, it's nice to hear from you!, let me know how you get on, i read about that somewhere 2.  I know that obviously these things don't seem to be cures, but i'm still up for trying these things because you never know - i would just check to make sure that it doesn't interact with meds you are on - i know high doses of oils can thin the blood making it more likely for gi bleeding if on nsaids.  what meds are you on? I'm just taking the methotrexate. I've been researching the MSM and have not found any negative side effects. It's a natural sulphur. It can help detox the body, so sometimes there can be initial diarrhea, etc. Today I woke up and felt much better, thank God. The last few days have been hell, I'm sure you know what I mean. Please keep in touch, it's nice to know someone out there understands.yes, sulphur.  I took it once, when I first had ra.  It made my feet swell.  And at that time my feet were the only body part that did NOT hurt.  I was sure mad.  At least I found out I was allergic to sulphur.   :-)Oh well, thanks for your input. Have any supplements worked for you?

Not for me.  And I tried everything when I was trying to doctor myself.  Not to say some of it may be good for you, and all that. But not good enough to ease the pain, slow RA down and put me in remission.  That's just my humble opinion.  :-)

Hope you stick around Missy, cuz we ALL UNDERSTAND, HERE.

Hulagirl38619.7857407407Well, I'm definitely staying on the methotrexate. I did meet the lady at the pool whose been in remission for 3 years after taking the MSM. She was under a doctor's care when she did it.

I wonder what else she was taking?

Yes, yes, you stick to you methotrexate.  I took for 4 months but it just made me too sick, so trying Humira now.  Too soon to notice any improvement yet.  Just trying to be patient.

Glad you got your insurance/meds back.  That's scary, I know.  And truly hope you keep feeling better. This RA pain is the pitts.
