Hey all animal lovers-Yesterday I had to put my 16 year old cat to sleep.  I was very brave and stayed to talk her through.  I wanted her to hear how much we all loved her as she passed on.  I miss her so much.  La

So very hard to loose a pet a friend a companion I wish I could post a copy of a card I got from my vet when my dog died this past spring, but alas I don't see where attachments can be done.
My deepest sympathy to you!
when you feel better try to go to a shelter and save a little one!
I'm so sorry for your pain.   We have had to put 2 wonderful cats to sleep and it is just incredibly heartbreaking. Good for you for being brave, I'm sure your baby had a peaceful transition to the next world and knew how well-loved she was.  Sending comforting thoughts your way.

I'm so sorry - it is so hard to make that decision and say goodbye.  But it is the ultimate expression of love, releasing them from pain.  Now she is free of pain iand living in spirit, still with you and still loving you.  You will see her again someday.  Until then, listen and watch for signs and you will know she is still with you.

Hugs,

Karen

La, so sorry to hear about your cat. Ours was 18. My youngest
son 16 years old at the time stayed with him and cried and
talked to him the whole time. It was hard to get another aniimal.
We decided on a small doggy. For me that little doggy is my
lifeliine. So I know how you feel Aminals do become a part
of our fammilies and lives.
Sending hugs your way.
I'm so sorry-I did the same many years ago with my 19 year old cat.
It's going to be hard for awhile- you'll find your eyes drawn to those places you expect to see her. There's that awful feeling right in the middle of your gut. You'll cry your eyes out.

I wish you didn't have to go through this. Hope happy memories soon replace these awful feelings in your heart.
Thanks everyone so very much.  I'm exhausted from crying.  We do plan on adopting a shelter cat asap.  Unfortunately we are about to leave town for 2 weeks...argh.  I do find comfort in the search.  My son and I have spent a lot of time on petfinders.com.  Way too many babies needing homes.  LaAww......I'm so sorry.  The first "person" I ever lost was my fat old siamese cat Tahoe, when I was 16.  It's so sad to lose such a great friend, such a huge, heartbreaking loss.  Hugs to you, TheLa.Oh TheLa. I am so sorry. Animals bring such joy to our lives. When one passes away it is devistating to say the least. Please accept my heart-felt sympathy.

I'm so sorry about your cat...I know this must be a hard time for you.

Sending positive thoughts your way.

I am sorry for your loss too.
Jan 2 this year we got a call that my favorite Auntie passed away. The same morning my husband took our ailing 19 year cat Miss Hissy to vet. Her blood test showed her kidneys had shut down. So my poor hubby had to have the vet put her down. I don't know who I miss more, both were very much loved.
Hugs and I'm so sorry for you!

I'm so sorry and I have been there too many times with my much loved cats and dogs.  Some time soon you will be able to talk about your baby without crying and then you will be pulling out photos and talking about the funny things that happened.  Then you will be ready to take another kitty into your heart.

La, I'm so sorry.  Few things hurt as much as losing our beloved pets.  I'm so impressed that you were able to stay with your sweet cat and say goodbye.  What a kind, strong person you are.  I have also had to put a cat down, it is so hard. my thoughts are with you.La, Many hugs to you and your family.  Our pets become part of our family and it's hard to give them up.  The spirit of your animal is still with you.  LindyYou all will never know how much your kind thoughts have helped, not only me but my son as well.  He and I took our cat's passing the hardest.  He read the posts, and told me it made him feel better. We really, truly appreciate every sentiment.  La [QUOTE=TheLa]

Sorry for your loss.Oh La, I'm so sad for you and your son. Soon you will find comfort in another cute kitty to make you smile again. I don't know what I would do without our Lexie she's a chihuahua and my best friend. My deepest sympathies to you and your family.
Bless you guys.

Several years ago we had this big fluffy cat. He had very long hair and was overweight. I was living alone then, I had just gotten a divorce and my kids were away at school. I just left food and water out for him and 3 others. I'd say a week went by and I picked him up and noticed how much weight he's lost, you couldn't see it because he was so fluffy. I took him to the vet and he was in liver failure, the vet said it's very common in obese cats who suddenly get sick and lose weight. I had to put him down a few days later. His bilirubin levels had skyrocketed because his liver wasn't working, his poor little ears turned orange. I cried and cried and held him as they put him to sleep. I still cry just thinking about it so I know what you're going through. I did learn a big lesson, don't let your cat get fat and sassy.

LA,  I'm so sorry to hear about your cat.  Last week my husband and I had to put our beloved schnauzer down.  He was a rescue dog and we loved him very much.  We stayed with him the entire time and I know he is free of pain.  My heart goes out to you and your family.  Hiking_gal
