In looking around about Lyme, I found this article by Dr. Mirkin.  He explains what he makes of the studies, and lists them.  He also lists which symptoms signify to him that a patient would respond to antibiotics, so I thought that might be helpful to anyone considering AP - whether  you are Lyme, Lyme-ish, or Lyme-free LOL.

Reactive arthritis patients who may be be cured by antibiotics are:

* Those who have positive blood tests for arthritis which are really measures of an overactive immunity that is trying to kill a germ,

* those who suffer from a chronic infection characterized by burning on urination, urgency or having to get up many times during the night

* those who have chronic diarrhea,

* those who have belching and burning in the stomach,

* those who have a chronic cough or sinus infections,

* those who have swelling in the middle of the hand which is characteristic of Rheumatoid arthritis.

This is the first time I have seen the statement that I bolded anywhere.   Very interesting to me - the symptom that finally got everyone's attention, after months of me saying something was wrong with my daughter, was redness and swelling in the middle of her hand!
I found this interesting -

Three months is not long enough to treat a person with reactive arthritis from any source.

Does anybody know what the 'accepted' treatment of Reactive Arthritis is?

Chronic cough or sinus infection?  That was me?

And I had an attack of carpel tunnel in both hands that they told us was 'unusual' for RA.  Am I crazy, but this seems just like RA.  How do they differentiate the two?

My Mom said when the doctor came to the house (gawd I am old) at age 3 when I contracted scarlet fever said:  "Look at her palms".  He turned them over and right in front of my parents' eyes, this bright red big spot appeared which covered both my palms.  Then he showed them the bottom of my feet.  Same thing.  I, however, was unconscious.  This durn strep thing keeps sneaking into the big picture.  Oh, and my diagnosis from age 20-50 was chronic sinusitis and the antibiotics always cleared it up, for a MINUTE (Ron White).  Now two big carpel tunnel attacks, that resolve by themselves.  Amazing, absolutely frigging amazing.  I've been told by two RD's that inflammation in wrists can mimic carpel tunnel...  rid yourself of inflammation.. rid the carpel tunnel symptoms.
