Reduction? | Arthritis Information

Debbie posted this in another section on the board and I wanted to copy and paste it here since it hasn't gotten any responses over there. I'm hoping to have this surgery myself after the first of the year so I was anxious to hear what our friends here had to say. Hope you don't mind Debbie.

"Has anyone had a breast reduction preferably on NHS due to arthritis pain in neck/back being increased to to weight/size of their breasts?
I am considering having this done and would like any advice info on your experience of this
thanks

I had BRS years ago prior to RA.  They grew back and I was told that happens in 1/3 of the cases.  Sigh.

That's my biggest fear. When I gain weight....that's where I gain it and I can never lose it there. They've gotten bigger and bigger despite my fairly slender weight and I hate it. I might PM you about it pip if that's ok. I have several questions and this topic seems to be getting little interest and it's fairly personal.
I had one in 1993.  Pre RA.  I would do it again over and over.  It was an easy surgery but I wish they would have made me a B instead of a C.  Let me know if you have any questions!!I would LOVE to have that kind of surgery done!!!! Tho paying out of pocket would NOT be fun.  It does sound like it would help with back/neck pain of any kind.  It'd be interesting to hear if anyone has had it done post RA and how it helped them

If they remove so many "grams", surgery will cover it.  I had to wait until after surgery and chance that they didn't take enough to make me qualify.  Many surgeries they can estimate grams they'll remove and get you "pre approved".  Just complain of back pain, shoulder strap marks.  Somatic (body) symptoms.  Mine was covered 100%.

PM away!  I know how you feel - it is personal.

i've thought about it..and am sure insurance would cover it.  even though i've regained some weight when I was lighter I was still out of proportion.  But darn it I wish they could do it without surgery...i'm surgeried outwhat size were you before Goldie?Ya know..........I don't really know.  I literally shoved myself into a C even though it didn't fit at all!!!  They took two lbs off of each side.I had BRS last Aug 1st. Best thing I ever did for my neck pain. Insurance covered it all.
