Hoping for some answers | Arthritis Information

Hello to all our new members - and welcome!

Sorry I haven't been on for a while.  Things have been a tad crazy here over the past two months - what with study, assignments and final (?) exam, RA, out of whack diabetes and chronic nausea.

At least the study is over (forever!!!!!) - I managed to pass my final exam and in October I will have the piece of paper that says I can officially do what I have been doing in my job for the past twelve years!! YAAHHHH!

For the past four months I have been dealing with chronic nausea that nothing seems to help with - so my RD has progressively taken me off all my RA meds (mtx, plaquenil and arava) and all my pain meds to see if we can find some answers to what is causing the nausea.  It has decreased it but not gone away.  My body is protesting hugely at no RA or pain meds - sometimes thought they weren't doing anything but I guess they were helping a bit.  Feel like I'm about 100 at the moment.

The nausea has been sending my blood sugar levels beserk so two more diabetes meds added but nothing is working - looks like I'm going to have to move to insulin as the only option left.

Right now I'm in the middle of the prep for a gastroscopy and colonoscopy tomorrow to see if there is a stomach or bowel issue that is causing the nausea eg ulcer or ????  Don't much like the prep though!!  At least I'll be asleep for the tests.

Hopefully the tests will provide some answers. I think I can eventually convince myself to tolerate most things but continual nausea is the pits - clouds everything including thinking!

Has anybody else had experience with ongoing nausea and how do you cope with it?

Thanks in advance.
Have you tried probiotics?  They can make you nauseaus (spelling) in the beginning but when they kicked in my nausea quit.  I mean, quit!

I like the idea of a scope!

Hugs,

Pip

Keep us posted!
Hello,
Hopefully the med. testing will give you some  answers and you can get some relief.
Nausea is the pits!!
Hi greenfrog,

I'm so sorry you are feeling so sick. I too had to stop all my meds for 6 months. You sometimes wonder if they are really doing any good until you have to stop them and then you realise.

I agree with Pip on the probiotics they can work wonders for nausea. I have been taking primadophilis reuteri pearls for a different reason but found they really help with nausea.

My dh is a diabetic and has found I believe it is Janumet works really well for him, he was on byetta which did cause nausea after some time and some other diabetic drugs which caused hot flashes and major nausea. Maybe your body needs a change on the diabetic meds. I really hope you find something that works for you soon and you feel better fast. It's hard juggling ailments, really saps your strength.

Congrats on passing you exams.

Take Care

Jenny
I haven't had any nausea, at least not due to anything with RA or meds.  But we've all had that sick feeling for one reason or another, I can't imagine having it all the time like you describe.  Poor thing.  It must taint everything you do.  I hope your doc can find the cause and the remedy.  Soon, too.  :(
