chest/lungs hurting? | Arthritis Information

I haven't done anything different, but I woke up this morning with my lower chest/rib area hurting on both sides. It hurts worse when I take a really deep breath or move certain ways, but the dull pain is there alone too. Any ideas? I am not sick, no coughing or congestion. It feels achy like the flu. Could it be arthritis related or should I worry and make a Dr appointment? did you start methotrexate yet?nope, only on Relafen and Tylenol Jenn,

I have been experiencing chest pain and difficulty breathing for a couple of weeks , it's been getting worse. It is much worse when I lay down. Just got back from a visit with my RD today after an emergency visit with my PCP Friday. I am having an allergic reaction to enbrel. BUT the symptoms or difficulty it has caused is called pericarditis which RA can cause. Please check this out with your Dr.  You don't give too many details. I have no fever or cough just chest tightness and difficulty breathing. I don't feel sick, no cough etc. RA apparently is much more likely to cause these problems than an allergic reaction like I am experiencing.

JennyYou need to be checked out by your RD or primary care doctor.  It could be costochronditis, RA causes pain and inflammation in the rib cage.  Many times it's isolated to the sternum area but the pain can spread.  Also, like Jen said, you need to be checked by a doctor to rule percarditis.  Lindy Ditto the dr. idea. I have had something that sounds very similar to what you are describing more than once and it has always been costochronditis. It hurts like heck too. The dr. usually gives me a round of muscle relaxers and I feel much better in a day or too. Don't know anything about percarditis but it doesn't sound like any fun. Don't take any chances, better safe than sorry.

My chest hurts too, but more at where my ribs attach to my sternum. I have a sensation of "stretching" when I take a deep breath. I associate this with inflammation of the joints in my sternum, doesn't really sound like what you're having though. Could be muscle inflammation? I get that too. I dunno how old you are but I am with the others, you need to let your health care pro know.I had the same problem for a couple years, the doctor finally had an ultrasound done of my chest and found gallstones.

Other reasons could be liver problems, gas problems, or rare inflammation of the organs.  Ask your doctor as soon as you can.
