Hello Everyone,

I'm Jodie from Chicagoland.  I am new to RA and I'm glad I found this forum.  You all are so supportive and seem to have a lot to offer to others coping with this disease.

I started off taking methotrexate(6 pills) and folic acid.  I do not take prednisone because I am also a type 1 diabetic, and did not want to screw up my blood sugars.  My RD added Plaquenil but I very quickly got worse with increasing symptoms and more joints hurting.  She then suggested Arava or gave me the option to increase the MXT to 10 pills.  I chose the MXT because I was familiar with it.  I started the 10 pills about 2 1/2 weeks ago.  I am so happy to say that for the past few days, I have felt SO much better!  I never thought I would be so excited to be able to walk down the stairs of my house and have it be such a huge accomplishment!  But...it is!

I just hope I am able to continue taking this amount of MXT without it hurting my liver.  I'm going today to have my blood drawn, so we'll see.  I'm just so happy because I haven't felt this good for a very long time! (knock on wood)

It's nice to "meet" all of you!

Hi Jodie...welcome!
Glad the mtx has been working!
Another flatlander!  Welcome! Hi Jodie - welcome to the board!
I'm just over the border in WI - but my BF lives in Lake Villa- and I'll be moving there soon. What city do you live in? I'm glad you found us - sorry you are here. I'm glad the MX is working for you - I have been taking it since my diagnosis - and it seems to be working wonders for me as well. Best of luck with your blood tests!
Hugs

Hi Jodie and welcome!  I'm glad the mtx is giving you some good results.  If you do find that your liver enzymes are going up, I hear that supplementing with milk thistle can help. Hello .. Welcome!

Glad you're feeling better!!

best of luck to you

Hi Jodi, glad you joined and Pepper and Aleva too, HI!
Jodi, I live in central IL between Springfield & Decatur in the middle of cornfields and cows. I too love Chicago and have taken the kids there a couple of times to the museum. The lake there is amazing and beautiful! It's crazy that such a huge city has a lake right there. I'm a big cub fan and LOVE da bears! My sister took me to the bears games right after Soldier field was rebuilt. It was awesome except I parked under and lost my van and we walked for three hours before we found it. LOL It's like a whole 'nother world under ground. Good to hear you are doing better and I hope your liver test turns out great. Keep us posted and visit often. You'll meet lots of awesome people here!
TAKE CARE!
