what's the scoop? | Arthritis Information

right now she only takes alieve but is going to have to go to something stronger because it is not going away.  She has heard a lot of bad things about the stuff that is main stream, mtx and remicade, is there other options for her, and is it really going to help stop the disease, or just seem to fix it for a while?

what are some good websites that we can go to for different typs of treatment?  By the way what causes arthritis, I have heard a couple of different things and want to see if any of them match upI don't know much about osteoarthritis - but I think there are some different drugs used to treat it - like Celebrex. I'm sure others will have more info on what is more commonly used to treat OA.  Mtx helps weaken the immune system - so that our over active immune systems slow down a bit in the attack against out joints. There definitely is a possibilty in people dealing with RA - that our bodies will adapt to the drugs - making us switch drugs in order to find something that works again.
My mom has OA in her knee - she also has high blood pressure - which limits what she is able to take to treat it - but I know that the meds that I take were not offered as an option to treat what she has.
I hope you can find some answers here - hugs

Brenna has me confused -

Does she have OA or RA?

Hugs,

Pip
he said that his wife's mom has osteo arthritis - but he hopped into this discussion board because it was more active - please correct me if I'm wrong good juice. He posted the info on a thread called "new kid on the block"OA, what is causing the immune system to be overactive?  is that the cause of inflammation? OA and RA and kind of two different animals. I will let Pip or one of the more educated peeps give an explanation - only because they will come up with the research and the links to back it up  - can you guys help out our new friend?!? Brennaboo2008-07-22 10:23:57For starters - you could follow this link - it gives an explanation of the difference between RA & OA

Thanks boo how's cheese land?I'm in the infectious nature of these diseases camp - we believe the body is fighting an intracellular infection of cell wall deficient bacteria.  My Mom started AP (antibiotic protocol) for her OA but she's kind of non-compliant.  Moms!  My FIL started AP for it too.  He's not non-compliant and he's doing well.

I think the med of choice for OA is doxy but both parents are using Minocin.

Hugs - more later - have to run - swimming class for my daughter and myself and I have to run 2 errands before it.  Then it's karate and ice skating.  I'm not skating today.
