I have new respect for those of you that work on your feet during the day and especially if it's on concrete.   How do you do it??

I usually have a sit-down job, but yesterday I was running a health fair at one of our locations and was on my feet from 5:30 - 10:30 (concrete floor didn't help).     By the time I got back to my building, I could feel my feet start to ache and felt wiped out - ended up going to bed by 8:30.    Today, it's the same thing for my feet and hands decided to join in.   I even had to wear my "fat" shoes.     It was also my mtx morning, so between over-doing it yesterday and the meds, I'm ready to drop off to sleep again.    Tomorrow is the health fair at my site, but I already decided that others in my dept can oversee this one.  One hour tops and I'm back at my desk.

That's my whine for the day - thanks for listening.

I don't know how you did it... and whine away!  you should!!

I KNOW I could not do it now..

and then to follow with MTX DAY?  *faint*
CathyMN, I don't know either.  I have a mostly sit-down job, but make sure I move around all day long.  I have to, or I would freeze permanently into a sitting position and could be stuffed and place in a funhouse museum.  I watch people (like my husband) who are on their feet all day long and marvel - I just cannot do it.  Great whine :)  I do this sort of thing often.  I do art festivals as a hobby gone small business.  I do decorative painting.  It also includes lugging everything to the site and takedown after the show is done.  Some are 1 day, 2 day and I have one that is 3 days.  All of this is on top of working a fulltime job at a law office.  I wear Birkenstock shoes which help--a lot.  I do have certain criteria --such as no steps--roll in, roll out with a hand cart.  In fact I have one this weekend.  I set up on Friday, show on Saturday & Sunday.  Take down on Sunday night.  Back to work on Monday.  One other thing, this show has an hour drive to get there and I commute each day.  I thought about staying there one night but the hotel is too expensive.   I had to practically beat up my RA dr. to get a handicap tagr for my car so I do not have to walk a mile to get to my car.  Now it might be 1/2 mile!  The dr thought I sat all day at the shows--I am up and down on a ladder, I am re-stocking shelves and waiting on clients all day long.  It's called the flamingo dance.

Lean left. Then lean right. Pick up left foot. Pick up right foot. LOL

I do it aaallllll day long! My days of being on my feet long or over. I'm limping around after doing a 30 minute walk for exercise. Believe me it's not like I'm walking at a fast pace either.Bless your heart, I feel for you. You have my sympathy. I don't have to be on my feet all day but enough of it to make my feet hurt. I have had to forget fashion and go for comfort. Definitely wide shoes, either crocs or birkenstocks and on casual days sneakers. I have found a good walking sneaker works best for me, light weight but study. Also, a good hot soak at night helps and, if I am lucky, a foot massage from hubby. How terrible, I couldn't do that any more. but I use to the first couple years I was diagnosed.

Rotate shoes, do not wear the same ones 2 days in a row.

Bring extra socks and change them 2-3 times a day, (in bathroom). One time I even wet the old ones and placed them on the ground and rubbed my feet on them using paper towel to dry and put on new socks.

Merrills and New Balance provide me the best support.

Lean on something to get one foot off the floor even a couple minutes every hour will help.

hot soak when you get home and Hot and Icy on feet when you go to sleep.

Hope it was the last day,I used to do this every day for 10 years always on concrete or hard tile. No can do any more. Hugs to you! Thanks for the suggestions and well-wishes.  Final health fair is today, but I definitely will only stick around long enough to make sure that everyone is where they should be and then it's back to my desk.  Flat shoes will be worn and maybe I'll try that Flamingo dance - maybe I can get the employees to join in and they'll think it's a new fitness craze.I use to bartend for years at night after my husband got home from work so that I could stay home with my kiddos, plus who can afford daycare for 2 kids under 5!!  I would work from 6pm until 4:30am, needless to say I can't do it anymore.  I used to be wiped out for at least 2 days after.  Mommy laying on the couch all day is not so useful to little kids so I had to quit so money is pretty tight, but worth it to be with my children.
