Fingers Crossed It Works | Arthritis Information

Well I'm off for a cortizone shot in my right hip today, hoping it will help get me through my daughter's wedding which is two weeks from today.  Don't know if it will work, doctor didn't know but figured it was worth a try.  It is an iffy thing, and can take up to two weeks to take effect, so that is why today is the day.

I have had cortizone shots in my knees before, but haven't tried it for my hip, as it is a little more involved.  It requires an ultrasound to do a deep joint injection.   Oh I hope it works for just long enough to be able to enjoy the wedding and maybe get up and dance a time or two!

Anyone have any experience with this?
I don't have experience with cortisone shots at all - but I sure hope it brings you some relief.
Weddings are so much fun - and I truly hope you are able to enjoy your daughter's wedding - shakin your tail feather out there on the dance floor!
Let us know how you are doing!
Hugs

HH,

Good luck w/the cortisone shot.  I hope it brings some relief from pain and inflammation.  I've never had a cortisone shot in my hip,but have in my knees.  My RA doc was a real stickler about taking it easy the first few days, not walking much, he even had his nurse push you out in a wheelchair after the shot, I think perhaps to emphasize he wanted you not to do much. On the other hand, when I got a cortisone shot from my knee doc, he didn't put any restrictions on me.  Go figure.

Anyways, don't overdo if you can help it, which I know may be sorta ridiculous given you're preparing for your daughter's wedding.  Take care, and hope your daughter's special day is a beautiful and fun event.

No experience at all with the shot but best wishes that it brings you relief so you can enjoy that wedding!!!! It's so close-everyone must be so excited!

Let us know how you make out!
Years ago I  had cortisone injection once for an achilles  tendon but I'm sure  it isn't the same as what you will have. Best of luck to you.
Hugs

Good luck!!  I hope it'll work so you can do the Macarena!

I, too, hope it works!!

I've had knee shots lots of times.. and RD just says: Don't over do.. do what your normally do..but nothing extra.. *shrug*
No experience here, but wanted to wish you the best and congratulations on the upcoming wedding!  Hope you're feeling great and able to dance and enjoy yourself.    My oldest son was married in Dec 06 and it was the best time - wished it would have lasted longer.Good luck, hillhoney.

Oh and why ya gotta be so descriptive? It just brought back the horrible memory of the thyroid dr jabbing me in my throat 3 times! They used an ultrasound so he could see where he was jabbibg me. *shutters at the rememory* And just makes me want to prolong the next encounter.

I hope it is not bad pain for you to get the injection, if so hope it goes away fast!

I've only had many systemic cortisone shots and not the kind you are going to have, but I hear good things about them.
What I have done when wanting to feel wonderful for a big occassion, is to go on a Medrol pack for a week.  That always works for me.  If you are not feeling great early the week of the wedding, ask the doctor if you can go on one of these.

I have my fingers crossed for you so you can dance at your daughters' wedding.
I had an aspiration and a cortisone injection done to one of my hips after experiencing a lot of pain.  After 15 yrs. I was beginning to think my prosthesis was beginning to wear out and I really wasn't looking forward to a revision.  My ortho said the hip looked worn but generally looked okay enough to put surgery off for a while.  My procedure was like day surgery and I had to go through all the pre-op stuff to have this done.  The aspiration showed no infection so he gave me the deep joint injection.  I was very disappointed that the injection did not bring any relief whatsoever.  My ortho told me that not even an ultrasound would  gaurantee he's going to hit the right spot.

The next time I seen him he decided to give the injection in his office without making it a day surgery.  This time the injection was geared more toward the pain instead of trying to hit the middle of the joint.  This time it worked.  My hip has been pain-free for about 4 weeks now.  The soreness does creep back once in a while but it doesn't last long and is not nearly as bad as the pain was before the injection.

I hope your injection is a success and you have a wonderful time at the wedding!!!
Thanks, Thinker.  I hope yours continues to feel pain-free.

You know I do have to say it was pretty freakin' awesome to be laying there looking at what he was doing on the screen - you could see the whole joint, cysts and spurs and all, and the needle moving around in between them!  Hubby got to watch too fom behind a glass!
[QUOTE=Hillhoney]Thanks everyone for the kind wishes!  I'm back.  Wow that was a trip.  The darn needle was about 8 inches long and thick!  He apologize that he had to keep moving it around in there, but he needed to find the right spot. Whewie he hit the spot, I felt it to my toes!

He says it will take 5 to 7 days for it to take effect.  I let you know what happens.  Right now it feels achey - like someone stuck a needle in it!

Hope it works for you and soon!

I am going to have to quit reading your descriptive posts!  Making me a little anxious and feel quesy.

Then you had to say it was 8" and thick.

My arm when I got blood drawn out of yesterday is aching after reading your posts. I'm going to have a block done on my back next Friday. My doctor likes to use this stuff called Duramorph along with the cortisone. Makes me itch like crazy and I have to stay overnight. Last one I had helped some, at this point I am ready to try anything! I hope you feel better soon and hope the wedding turns out to be beautiful :)
OOFA I'm with joonie about the description- I'm so scared of needles! I can't believe you watched too!

I sure hope it works- you deserve it!
Great news Hill, and I hope you have a wonderful time.

I have had three shots, one in my neck, and he hit it perfect as it flooded my right arm to the fingertips, this after a W/C accident which herniated a disc in my neck.  Took him four jabs though, that was tough.  And one in a thumb to get it to release from a "Z" position, when getting tested for carpel tunnel the first round.  That horrible needle test made my thumb freeze into this shape, and the cortizone shot got it to release, weird.  Was like this for about a month inbetween tests.  And the last one was when they were hoping to avoid lumbar surgery and this one went nowhere, you could see it stop about six inches into the upper leg, that was it.  It was suppose to go down the leg to the toes.  Full blown sciatica from a tear in a collapsed disc which pushed the nerve bundle out of its slot and caused the sciatica.  These were all before my RA diagnosis.  I have RA and haven't had a cortizone shot yet for RA?  LOL

It is kinda fun to watch through I think is a fluroscope?  But most importantly, what are you planning to wear?  Cathy
Yeah Cathy, I guess they call it a fluoroscope.  This was all new to me, sounds like you are a pro!  Sorry if I scheved anyone out. I don't get squimish about most anything, so it never occurred to me I would get to you guys, LOL!

I have a really pretty (or at least I think so!) Maggie London dress from Nordstroms I found on line months ago (before Christmas clearance).  It was on clearance for .00 and it is the perfect color and style.  It was just too long cause I'm so darn short, so it's being altered right now.  Oh and this is cool too, it had to be taken in cause I lost 25 lbs.!!!!!

25 lbs! Good for you! What's your secret?WOW 25lb you lost! I think I found it! LOL
I had the cortizone shots in my hips. He numbed my hip with something and did the shots and I didn't even feel it. After a few hours my hips were sore for a few days but then TA DA! My hips felt great for weeks. I hope you get lots of relief time and enjoy the wedding!

I love Maggie London!  Perfect wedding day clothing.  And woo hoo on the 25 lbs.!!

woohoo for the 25lbs lost! joonie2008-07-26 10:30:06
