Bruising-I never have them! | Arthritis Information

Ok  I know this is a weird question but it has bothered me all of my life!

Yesterday I was playing baseball and the pitcher  hit right on the hip. Hurt like a B*^%#!! Every one said oh man you are going to have a huge bruise and I said, "nope I will bet anyone 100 dollars that it doesn't make a bruise."
Sure enough it didn't!  IT hurts like hell, as if their should be one.
I NEVER get bruises. I always wonder if it has something to do with RA?  Although I do have low blood pressure as well and wonder if that is why.

So, if our bodies have "overactive immune systems" does that mean we heal faster?

Just a few more examples- When I had my wisdom teeth surgically removed he said I would have bruising and puffiness. NOt a trace.

I had a major  experimental jaw surgery and had steel implants (almost like a mouth exander but more involved) in my cheeks. They had to take them out a month ahead of time because I was healing so fast because the skin was growing over them inside my cheeks.

I have never broken a bone- or a had a cavity and my hair and nails are sooo strong.

I just have t wonder if all of this is RA related. OR I might just be crazy!!

edited to say I am not complaining just curious!!
cah14182008-07-27 08:01:40Hi cah, I don't think this is Ra related. I haven't read it to be a symptom.  I am bruising all the time now, but it might be the meds I don't know. have you ever had a bruise? sounds like a great thing not to bruise.hahah you would think so. But my side hurts so bad and I have nothing to show for it! lol
Nobody believes me!
If the body was 'over active' immune system - I'd assume you'd bruise like hell.  I do and always have but then again, I don't believe in the hyperactive system.  Your  post has me intrigued.  Anybody else never bruise?

Pip!2008-07-27 08:38:22prior to starting these meds.. I never bruised... I never got sick.. for the last 5 years.. NOTHING.. not a cold.. not a flu... not a virus.. not a damn thing.  My family got sick.. I took care of them.. I never got it... nothing...

explain that???? I can't.
I wouldn't think bruising would be immune related.  It would be more of a clotting issue in my opinion.  A bruise is caused from broken blood vessels allowing blood to spill out under the skin.  Perhaps you just have blood that clots very rapidly.  Medication that causes bruising makes the blood thinner, and it takes longer to clot.

I do think many people with auto immune disease report hardly ever getting sick, which I believe is from an over active immune response.  Kind of always in overdrive!  That is until people start taking immune suppressant medications and then the pendulum swings the other way sometimes.
Hillhoney2008-07-27 10:27:58Yeah Hillhoney, I thought of that once I posted and realized they were probably completely unrelated.  Oh well. Maybe I am just a good clotter! lol

edited to say that when I do get cuts they heal so quick and hardly bleed! guess I should have thought of that! Hill -

A lot of the stuff I read trying to figure this all out says most people with AI diseases have 'sticky blood'.  That would be me - I got blood clots when I had my baby.  So, I'm assuming sticky blood people would clot easier.

Vitamin K influences clotting and is made in the gut processing our foods.  AI people also are low in the basic mineral panels - pot, cal, and mag - which are processed from our food.

When you suffer a bruise from some sort of skin injury (like falling off your flipflops like I did a few weeks ago) the blood rushes in with all kinds of anti-inflammatory cytokines etc and tries to stop the trauma.  But if your capilaries and veins got 'smushed' and blocked inside the now damaged vascular system, you'll bruise just because the trapped blood has nowhere to go.

But I do think it's interesting that Cah doesn't bruise (edited to say I'm like Snow, I'll bruise if you look at me wrong).

We ran a poll on AI awhile back and it was 50/50 on sickly or not prior to RA.  I was 'sickly'.  I wonder if we should run that poll again with all the newbies and see if it still holds water.

Oh, what the heck.

Pip!2008-07-27 14:55:22Ok, I'll shut up now!
I think I am a bit confused on the sticky blood thing. I am going to have to read over it again when my brain isn't so crowded
What if the blood gets sticky before it gets to the surface?? What if I have bruising but it's way under the skin? Hmmm I have no clue what I am saying. I just had a mojito. haha

I just remember a story about when I went to the gyno and the tried to prick my finger for the iron test (or whatever it was)
I wouldn't bleed! She had to jam the needle back in the hole and jiggle it around and then sqeeze like crazy! haha

This was after she took my BP and it was like 90/65 though.  I think that may have had something to do with it.
