You must check out Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate.
My Rheumy says that there is no scientific proof that these supplements work, but his patients swear they do. And he says that there must be something to it. As an aside, when my old dog got arthritic in the hip, I gave her the supplements in pill form (from Sam's) and she really responded well. I've yet to try it because I can't stand to take another pill. Let us know if it works.

My doctor told me take glusomine/chondroitin as well. I also take with the MSM included. I don't know if I feel better, but I guess if I quit it I might see a difference!
