Injectable MTX | Arthritis Information

Taught this morning, although I had the nurse inject me, in my stomach. Didn't hurt at all.

But now I feel very nauseated.  Maybe the pred?  Not feeling great.  Will do shot in pm now, just in case that's it.  Almost done with pred pack.  Didn't get all of ROM back, but got some limited function, less pain but new different burning pain too.  But shoulder and elbow much better.

I'm at work, gotta go, just needed to vent.  Not sure why so nauseated...

I'm just speculating here,  but the mtx shot could be the cause of nauseousness.  A shot gets into your system faster, plus this is your first time, maybe your body needs an adjustment period.  Just guessin'.

I inject mtx.  I try to drink enough water on that day, it seems to help me.  I can feel tired the day after my shot, so I take that into consideration w/planning activities.  I think some who work full time, take their shot on a Friday, or the weekend, so if they feel tired, or yucky, they have the weekend to take it easy.  I think that's a good idea doing the shot in the pm, so you could possibly sleep off any side effects.

Hopefully, the mtx will kick in and alleviate some of your shoulder stiffness, consider a heating pad for 10-15 minutes, or a hot shower, to help w/rom.  Take care, feel better soon.

Yeah, I think I'm just finally feeling the true effect of it, it is getting into my system finally with the shots, which is a good thing.   I had been taking the pills right before bed too, but because I had to have the nurse show me, it was first thing in the day.  Nausea is gone, but it lasted a few hours. Now I am really dizzy and just feel crap.  Will probably try to switch to Sunday nights, then maybe back to Saturday nights if necessary.  But I will give it a few weeks.  My mom just had laryngitis and I can't tell if that has anything to do with this (dizziness, etc., just from infection).

I just started injecting mtx last week and it made me feel like crap too.  Before last week, I was taking my pills (10) at night because they just wiped me out so bad, I had to sleep through the worst of it.  I guess I was hoping that the injectable would be easier to tolerate, but it still makes me sick.  So, this week I'll inject about an hour before bedtime and hopefully sleep it off.  Bleh.

Katie, I have been on the inject. forever it seems. I found, especially in the beginnig, that doing it Fri night late - right before bed really helped. I slept in a bit the next mornig and made a point to drink extra juices and water, but event now, it's the day after that, that I am wiped out and spend the day in bed reading, goofing on the computer, etc.

Hang in there, Katie.. you'll figure out what works best w/ your life and the injections.. I take the MTX pills on saturday at dinner time... I still feel a little flu-like on Sunday but that's okay .. I can take it easy

my best to you!!
Katie, I strongly recommend doing it in the evening about 2 hours before you go to bed. I do feel a bit nauseated 2 hours later but I am going to sleep. That night is my best nights sleep, the only night I really sleep so again I recommend doing it at night.

Hope it starts working soon.Hi Katie!
I remember the first time I went in for my injection - doc said I could be sick - thankfully I wasn't. I take my injection first thing in the morning and don't seem to have any problems - I work 2 jobs - so I'm tired all the time anyways - LOL! I hope the nausea goes away for you hon!

I thought that was what the Folic Acid was for to help with the nausea.  I could be wrong.  I take 12.5 mg of Mtx and I seem to get muscle aches if I do not take my Folic Acid.  I take 3 1mgs of this everyday.  I have been on injxt for over 6 months.

Good luck.
My first time getting the MTX shot I felt a little queasy, but never again after that.  I think you just need an adjustment period and changing your schedule like was suggested.  Hang it there, it will get better, I'll bet. I think (I hope) it might actually be working some.  Since I'm actually having side effects too!  I just finished a medrol dose pack, so it's hard to tell, but swelling is down (although I still feel ugh).
