mtx and headaches | Arthritis Information

Does anyone get headaches from mtx? I've been taking mtx for over a year now and never had headaches before. For about the last 3-4 weeks that's changed and it starts the day I take my meds and sticks around for a day or two.

yes.. happened to me too.

I told my RD and he said take a cough med w/ dextromethorphan before dosing the MTX and then a couple more doses of the cough med the day after.

It works!!

also.. I drink ALOT of water.... both days.

I'm on 20 mg. of MTX and i get headaches. It doesn't follow any pattern. The headaches could start the day after or 5 days after i take it. As soon as i feel a headache coming on I take 2 Excedrin for migrain tablets, and that usually takes care of it.

Thanks - I guess I'll just have to pop some excedrin and drink more water. It's been so busy at work that I haven't drank (drunk) my usual amount of water, so maybe dehydration is to blame. If you take your MTX at night try taking a benedryl with it. Benedryl the anti -histime makes most people really tired so you don't want to take it during the day.

I took it with Remicade so I did not have to have a 24 hour headache.

I took my mtx this morning and headache 4 hours later. Called my RD since this is a pattern now for a few weeks. She feels it is related to the mtx since it's pretty consistent as to when and how long, so I'm going to reduce my mtx from 20mg to 15mg and see if that helps. If it happens again next week, then she's going to switch me to Arava. I think I'll do some searches on Arava - just in case.

try the cough med Cathy... It really works to fight off the headache.

1 tsp 2 hours before dosing w/ MTX... and then the next morning (cause i dose after dinner on Saturday) I take another tsp.. and another 4 hours after that.. amazingly.. no headache.
