OT - Ouch! Need advice - | Arthritis Information

Anybody have a suggestion for me?  Yesterday I went swimming with the baby and felt a little lazy and decided to not swim back to the ladder but to just haul my butt out of the pool like a 'normal' person - who's maybe 20 or something.  Apparently that wasn't such a great idea.

As I was getting out of the water I kind of twisted to the left and pinched my skin ( so I thought) at my lowest left rib.  It hurt.  A lot.  So, cursing my stupidity, we went to the showers and then took the baby to a different class.  When picking up my daughter from there in a few hours I mentioned it to a woman running the cooking class and it turns out she's a nurse.  She kind of squeezed my ribs, said it wasn't broken as it's not excruciating and said they couldn't do anything for that anyway so put ice on it and relax.

Over the night I started to hurt more and more.  I couldn't sleep for the pain.  This morning my entire left side, about the size of my palm, is killing me.  Sometimes I think its the rib, and sometimes I think its something under the rib.  Isn't that my stomach?  Why would that hurt?

Do I need to see the doc?  Can I just ride this out?

Advice is appreciated.

Pip
Given our overall health condition, I never 'ride' anything out for long anymore. It's likely you just overstretched/pulled a muscle -- but it is surprising you are that uncomfortable from a simple action like that. Why don't you call your doctor (or nurse practioner?) -- I think you see a naturopath, don't you? At least ask if s/he thinks you ought to come in for an exam. Maybe s/he will suggest you increase the tramadol for a few days and see what happens. But I would at least call.

I have a giant bruise on my right calf -- I had one on my left calf a month or two ago. I don't remember bumping my leg, and certainly not in a way that would cause this bruising. I am going to call my doc and have him take a look. It may be nothing .... but then again ...

Take care of yourself Pip.

You might call your doctor and see what he says.  It may be just a bruise but you don't know.  I use ice alot for strains, etc.

Take care and let us know what you do.

I'd try a couple of days of pain reliever and a heating pad. I always prefer heat over cold.

Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks guys!

Bonnie (and Jan) - I'm putting a call into my Integrative MD - I was kind of hoping to avoid that as he's out of plan.  Sigh.  I don't see a naturopath - altho I'm starting to seriously lean that way.  LOL

Wannabe - I think that's probably what happened - but darn, does it hurt.  I lost a lot of weight when I started Mino but then gained it back during that freak-of-nature Armour Thyroid fiasco where I turned hypo-thyroid.  I'm not doing a lot of exercise but I swear my body hates even the idea of it.  LOL  I just want to get healthy - is that too much to ask?

Jas - I'm also out of folic acid so I'll call the rheumy and ask him to call in some scrips.  Arrgh!  I just got off the last of the pain killers.

Hugs and thanks,

Pip

It is amazing how easy it is to really hurt yourself doing everyday things. One just does not expect to be ruined just sitting on the bed... Especially when you didn't feel strained at the time.

At it takes soooo lonnng to get over these things. I like heat and painkillers for this kind of thing.
