I've been taking Advil (per my doctor) for the pain of RA since diagnosed in Feb. 2005.  It's been getting progressively worse.  I have at least 2 - 3 days a week where all I can do is lay in bed in cry.  I finally asked my doctor for some pain meds for the bad days and she gave me Darvocet (Codeine and Vicodin make me sick to my stomach).  I took one last night and although it doesn't completely take the pain away, for the first time in months I realized I wasn't in constant, stabbing pain.  However, she only gave me 15 pills.  I don't really want to have to take narcotics every day, but I also don't know how much longer I take the level of pain I have every day.  What does everyone take for the pain on a regular basis?  I take 3 - 4 Advil at a time about 4 - 5 times per day and it really doesn't do anything anymore except upset my stomach.  My doctor has really never breached this subject with me until I brought it up yesterday but I doubt she's going to want me to take Darvocet all the time.

Roxy is the Darvocet Queen. Until just recently when she got on Enbrel she used it alot. She'll help you with that.

I take Tramadol which is generic for Ultram? (Is that right guys?) I like it....it's not that strong...but non-narcotic and definately stronger than advil.

During the day if I need it (Which I don't most days; I take MYX & Humira and that's a great combo) I do take Advil...4 at a time. just make sure you eat first!!

Hope this helps a little.

my doctor said I could take as many as 12 advil when needed.I love my darvocett

He might have meant up to 12 a day....and I have taken more than that actually; but I'd be scared to death to take 12 at a time. I'd doule check that if I were you.
