I will probably remember more edits of it all, but right now. My brain is not functioning, I have not felt well all day.
I just wanted to "talk". Most of my ideas are useless or not even possible.
I just think these billion $ companies, should give back to the people who help make them all those billions. They are kinda like politicians. We lived in a state a few years ago that had a very large population of elderly people. No matter what the idea was, if it in any way benefitted the schools using tax dollars, it was shot down every time. I'm speaking in general terms here, but the elderly felt they had already raised their children and didn't want any of their tax dollars going to the schools. sad.
Now we lived in another place where, when you bought a house, you had to write a separate check to the school district at closing. It went directly to the schools and was based on a percentage of the cost of the house. I thought it was a great idea!
I ran into a cousin of mine who was telling me about an arrogant, wealthy business man who was huffing and puffing about having to pay taxes for children's education. He felt he shouldn't have to pay for a child to be educated if he didn't have any children of his own. My cousin asked him who was going to look after him when he was in a nursing home- the dumbies who couldn't afford to go to elementary school? He shut up after that.
I'm sure these companies could use the "blessings" Joonie...
It's a sweet thought you have... I'm afraid that giving a needy family million would not prove to be beneficial toward making that family productive citizens....Look at what happens to these types when they win the lottery....most of them squander it all and end up penniless. If this windfall were to happen, in my opinion, to make it successful, the financial award should be kept in an interest bearing account and only a stipend given per month to subsidize their income enough to live modestly. I would also require the family members who are able to work, to maintain gainful employment as a stipulation to the continuation of the trust fund.
I mostly am against government forcing business to "give" their product or their profits away. This is a free enterprise, afterall. However, I do recognize that big oil has this country over a barrel "pun intended", and since they won't be responsible citizens, I don't have a problem with the government capping what they can charge....To me that would help more people and would be a more equitable solution.
I do agree with Bizzalou-
Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach him how to fish, he eats every day.
The trick is putting the effort and funds into finding out how to teach him how to fish.
I read a study where they were comparing the profit margins of industries in the U.S. It was eye opening. The oil companies profit margin is average at best. Their huge profits have more to do with volume than anything else. To try to take money away from them would be a mistake. Every time you make it harder to do business, we the consumers pay for it in the end...
Before any one asks me for the study, I forgot where I saw it. I am looking for it, my brother doesn't believe me. LOL...This is how I see it. For at least one year, the US cuts off all aid to foreign countries. We close the borders. Anyone who is here and wants to stay here has to be approved to stay here... you have to have some sort of talent that makes you hireable. You can apply for politcal asylum. We use the money that we didn't spend on the people of some other country to take care of our own for a change. Like you... I dunno how it'll all work, haven't thought it out that far, but something needs to be done!
One component would have to be some sort of Vocational Job Training with all sorts of incentives to better yourself... Although you'd think that the desire would be innate...
