I have great, wonderful news! At least it is for me! I've been taking MTX for about 6 weeks and it has made all the difference in the world!. Until 2 weeks ago I had to have my BF fasten my bra because I couldn't reach behind my back to do it and it hurt my wrists too much to fasten around my waist then scoot it around to put it on. My shoulders are so much better now that I can reach behind and fasten and unfasten my bra without any difficulty. Yesterday I didn't have to take ANY pain medication. While I don't feel "normal" I feel SO much better than I did. If I had never come to thsi website I wouldn't have taken the MTX, I was very scared to take it because of all the labwork involved and I have no veins. I started reading here how anyone who was in remission (just about) was taking MTX. There was a study Lynn put up that showed differences in a biologic alone as compared to biologic and MTX and the greater results they had using both. So thank you all for being here and showing me the things I needed to be taking to feel better. :)I'm so glad to read that you are feeling so much better.  It's always great to hear about people's success with the various meds.

Take care,

Lynn

I am so glad to hear that the MX is working for you. The side effect list if so overwhelming with the drug - but so many of us take it - and really do well with it. I hope you have continued success with it. Anytime anything works well to control the RA - it is good news.

It's always so great to hear success stories.  Congratulations.  That is excellent news.  Your story is very similar to mine.  I have been feeling great for close to two years on MTX. (knock on wood of course)That's great news Wendy! Welcome to the club. I've been on MTX too for more than 5 years now and have been very happy with the results.

So glad to hear you're doing well.
Glad to hear it was successful for you!Wendy,

That's so great that you're having good results w/mtx, uncontrolled RA can be so hindering, making simple tasks like getting dressed difficult.

Re your labwork, if you are a hard stick, have poor veins, consider a "butterfly" instead of a regular needle and syringe to draw blood.  It has a small needle, and makes it easier, though not all phlebotomists are handy at using them, so you may have to ask for a more 'experienced" person, though most of the time its not an issue.  Also, they draw from the top of my hand, doesn't hurt w/the butterfly.

Good luck and take care.

Wendy, thanks for posting your wonderful news. I too was scared on MTX and refused it to my detriment for two years. I wish I had been smart enough to read forums then instead of just relying on the list of side effects. I hope you keep feeling better.

Thank you all for your responses to my post. Most of the time the things I post here seem to me to be so whiny. I read the personal stories here and some of you guys have RA so bad that I feel practically silly for even complaining about mine. Yes, I swell, yes I hurt but I don't have damage to my joints that prevents me from walking or using my hands. I feel very thankful that I don't seem to have a really aggressive case like some of you  do. Even so, the addition of MTX to the regime I take has been a Godsend. Thank youo all for your support and advice. :)Great news, Wendy!
