Oily skin??? | Arthritis Information

Hey All,

Ever since I was diagnosed with RA it seems as though I have especially oily skin and hair, a  problem I have never ever ever had before.

I asked my RD about it and he just laughed it off and looked at my like I had 2 heads.

I don't know if it's a side effect to the minocin or Nsaids... or if it's unrelated.  I almost feel stupid posting this.

has anyone else experience anything similar?
Not me but I'm on neither of what you mentioned.Don't feel stupid for posting something like this...docs don't know everything and this is the kind of stuff we're all here for.

I have experienced something similar.  I have very fair skin and I have suffered with acne long past my teen years.  However, in the last two years (the time I've had RA), my breakouts have been worse.  In the last couple months in particular, it seems I'm nearly always broken out.  My scalp has been itchier and a bit oilier, although the rest of my hair is pretty dried out (since I started the biologics).

I thought it may have to do with my hygiene.  Since I've been out of work on disability, I sometimes skip my daily shower and hair wash if I'm feeling particularly bad.  But even if I don't shower, I do wash my face. However I noticed that the breakouts and oily scalp do not seem to coordinate to the times I skip my shower.

I also wondered if it has to do with perspiration.  Since I'm feeling overheated more often, I'm sure I'm perspiring more.

As for being related to meds, I'm not on minocin and the NSAID's I've been on (currently Relafen) I've been on for many years.
Hydroxychloroquine seems to make me more prone to itchiness, especially on my head.
