Were you prescribed and using a PPI before or after your diagnosis with RA?

Before

occasional use of Tums.

Pip!

are you looking at absorption issues?
After -- rarely had any stomach issues prior to RA.

When I started the celebrex, plaquenil and minocycline -- all 3 meds were tough on the stomach, and my rheum wanted me to take something every day. Now I forget frequently and have no discomfort -- but I am still supposed to take them everyday. Don't need a prescription strength though-- just used pepcid.
As soon as I was put on MTX and prednisone- PrilosecAfter, when I was dx'd with GERD.

Take care Pip.
After.never....Before, GERD and gastritis per EGD.Haven't ever used them.

Not taking

After.  I was taking Prilosec and because of the cost, changed to generic Zantac.  I also use tums now & then for the little bit of calcium in them.   Before, for about 2 years pre diagnosis.  This was in a long line of guesses on what was wrong and a script to match their best guess.  Didn't do a thing as far as I know.  justsaynoemore2008-08-12 14:48:30Years before my RA diagnosis, I was diagnosed with GERD.  I use Prevacid.

5 befores

6 afters

4 nevers.

Well, that blows that theory.

Babs, I was thinking before would/could be a reason for the onsets of these diseases.  Stomach acid kills a lot of bacteria entering the body.  After could only be to protect the stomach from harsh meds.  But your point on absortion issues is a key point too.

Hugs,

Pip
I was probably a candidate for it before.  I don't get GERD that I'm aware of, but I think I may have it some without noticing b/c my father has that issue and my sister got a lot of cavities as an adult because that was happening, and she didn't know it.

Without  a PPI and even with I am super sensitive to anything acidic, onions and peppers and garlic too.  No dairy issues though...

But maybe there's a correlation between being predisposed to needing them, and RA?

I think I'm a supertaster too.  That's my excuse not to eat broccoli, unless it is baked a ton and flavored with something else...
