in pain | Arthritis Information

 

uGh having issues. up till now my back and neck have left me alone......its mostly just my extremeties causing problems. WELL recently i have been having some weird very sharp intense pain in the back of my head down at the base of my skull at the occibital bone...maybe inthe area of the external acoustic proterburance. lol anyway thats a very sharp intense pain and then some aching after wards. also recently i have been trouble turning my head to check behind me when i am driving. its not from sleeping on my neck funny cause i dont feel it in the morning today i noticed at 6.....cant move my neck to the side very much and when i do it sort of crackles. im putting heat on it now and also my back hurts now as well. i cant tell if its muscles or joints, i know my muscles are very tight, last week at rheumy my doc asked me if i have anziety problems lol cause they are SOOO tight...and they do hurt when i massage them, but the pain it self feels more joint like to me, i dunno. any clue what could be going on?? im doing heat and just took 2 tramadol.....

Wow little mermaid- those are some big words wannabe doesn't know! It sounds like it could be stress but sometimes I get that neck pain too- it kind of migrates down to the shoulders too. I slather on some icy hot.

Henrietta2009-03-10 13:17:19im not sure if this is muscle....it doesnt feel like it, i know what sleeping on my neck wierd feelslike. i cant move me head hardly at alll and when i do its goes crackle crackles crackes My neck/upperback and shoulder are my worst areas.  I snap, crackle, pop like a rice crispy.  I have been seeing a pain dr. and he has been giving me nerve blocks  to loosen the muscles.  X-rays have shown OA in the neck.  I was surprised since I am still fairly young.  Pain dr. believes that RA is also causing the damage.  Whatever--it hurts. I also have occasional pain in my neck and up into my jaw.  It's fine now...comes and goes.  I'm sure it's due to RA/inflammation as a Humira shot usually knocks it out pretty well.  It can be a real inconvenience as it can be very painful to eat or drive...no solution but to wait it out. LM, I am having the same pain with my neck at the mo, I put it down to RA, as it is exactly the same as when I was dx, and I have just started Orencia, so a, waiting for it to kick in. it keeps me awake at night and as you say turning the  head while driving is so painful, it is like having a stiff neck, but the pain is at the base of the scull. Its helps a lot when hubby massages my neck, he has got magic fingers and never complains.  I also think stress makes it worse. Am going to have a professional massage to see if she can help on Sat. Hi little, sorry about your pain in the neck, I have a pain in the butt, well, 3 of them at the moment, lol. Seriously though, I have had severe pain off and on for the last couple of years and I've found if I can alternate ice and heat, that seems to knock it out for the night, and in the morning, I take a scalding hot shower -  feels heavenly. Have you ever been to a massage therapist? They are the best,  but make sure you find a good one famiiar with RA and other AI problems, so they know what they can and should not do. I love mine!

yes.... I have that pain.. I have stenosis of the cervical spine... I snap crackle and grind... Lately when I carry something.. doesn't even have to be heavy... I get muscle spasms that stop me in my tracks..

Heat... and sometimes a hot bath will help with that..

I have some pain occasionally in my neck and it crakles alot, but I don't know if it is strees or Ra. I use Bio Freeze on mine and it goes away.I have had severe neck pain..X-ray showd degeneration and bone spurs due to arthritis. Went to physio regulary for a while and it totally went away. Good luck!!
