Just started Imuran today after almost 2 years of sulfasalazine. Any thought I just read all the side effects- cancer was the scary one. I am hesitant to take it anymore. Enbrel seems to have stopped working for me too. I am really bummed out at how terrible I have been feeling. TheRA doctor also up[ed my lyrica to 200 mg twice a day .

I have been on imuran for over 10 years, It has worked good for me.  as far as cancer goes is another question, I just found out I had mouth cancer on July 11th., The cause, not  the imuran,  but my partial rubbing.  Just dumbness on my part, I should have kept a closer watch on a bump in my mouth.   I also was on cytoxin, before the imuran.  which also can cause cancer, for some reason they put me on the hard stuff.

Hope it works as good for you,  try not to think of the side effect.   have a great day.

Rusty I am sorry to hear about your cancer. Thank you for your inputYes cancer is very scarry. I wish all the meds didn't have so many side effects. Rusty so sorry you're bummed out. Try and not worry and Chris so sorry about your cancer.Chris, I think all the potential side effects on all meds are scary.  Some are scarier than others, but you have to weigh the risks versus the benefits.  I have been on Imuran for 1.5 years and although I'm not sure it's helping much, it is helping more than mtx or Arava was.  To me that is enough to continue it for now.  I'm more concerned by the risks of the biologicals, although I'm still taking those, too.  Without medicine I would be in too much pain to have a good quality of life, and even what I have I'm looking to improve on.

Rusty, I am sorry about your mouth cancer.  Although it's easy to say in hindsight that you should have done this or that, but the important thing is to take good care of yourself from now on.  I have seen just a bit of what you're going through in some of the other posts, and I hope things will get much easier for you soon.
I am on Imuran. I have been for almost a year now. Maybe less.

It wroks well for me. It does not seem to help with my swelling, but I can definatly tell when I have missed one of my pills. I take 50mg (100mg) 2 times a day. Some times I am not home or forget to take one.

Yeah, the cancer part is scarry, but all meds we take seem to "can cause cancer".

Good Luck on making up your mind! I know how it can be a struggle in making a decision.
I really wouldn't worry to much about cancer and Imuran, Like I said I have been on it for over 10 years, without any problems,  I read somewhere that it was rare unless you have been on other cancer causing drugs like cytoxin.  Predisone caused more side effect then any other meds. I've been on.

Thanks for your kind words, I did get better news today, not as bad as I was thinking....Thank God...cancer is stage 1.
Well have a great day
Rusty
