Flaring, am I? | Arthritis Information

Ok... I am confused about how to know the difference in my "regular" normal and flaring.

I was on the flare pred taper for a few weeks, and not much swelling not much of anything RA related, until I got down to 15mg. Then everything started aching, and then a little swell here and a little swell there, but the swelling would clear up a little after the next 15mg dose of pred.

Well, now I am at my maintance dose of 10mg have been for over a week now. And the swelling just keeps coming and will NOT go away! Why do I HAVE TO BE A SWELLER?!

Anyways... every joint has inflammation in it to some degree, some more than others. Like my right elbow SWELLED HUGE! My jaw swelled HUGE, cannot bite into stuff or even open my mouth enough to fit a spoon in it and my mouth does not open wide enough for me to stick my tounge out or even brush my teeth. I have smelly breath!

My knees how ever are one of the swelled, but not like they usually are. They are swelled you can see it, but not huge swelled.

It is my ankles that have took the place of my knee swelling. They are swelled pretty darn good! But not painful, just a hinderance, because they get stiff and stuck much faster if I stand too long.

My fingers and hands... well they do not look all boney now, they are "fat" aka swelled and unbendable and make life much more harder. My knuckles on my hand, the first knuckle, they are red on both hands.

One thing though... that you hardly ever hear me complaint about is my feet or toes. They never seem to bother me. No, pain... I know they swell. They just do not bother me. When I got really bad about 3 years ago and for maybe a year... my feet and toes hurt like they were broke and hurt to even be on them. They have not bothered me since I started Humira a couple of years back. It was like the Humira fixed them, but did not fix anything else. I use to not be able to curl my toes or bend them, but I have been able to for a while.

I was just afraid to say anything about it, to not jinx it! Feet pain is HORRID, would not want that to return!

Ok... back on track... so is my "normal" with swelling? Or is it just that I am still flaring?

I would have thought I would have a little while longer before the swelling returned again. I was hoping the pred flare taper would have given me some time. But looks like NOPE!

I'm so sorry!  That must be awful. I know I have asked this before, but can you not take NSAIDS?  Or is one of those drugs NSAIDS?  Oh I guess the asprin sort of is.

My main thing is stiffness more than swelling.  I can't imagine...hang in there!
Hi Joonie, I am like this everyday. Hands, knees, ankles, elbowes, wrists and my feet are horrible. My toes are curled under and is so hard to walk. Iam so sorry you have to go through this. I know how bad it hurts. I wish I could make your pain go away. I will send prayers for you and here's a hug
