Sorry to be such a whinner, but just wanted to know if anyones muscles hurt in ther legs? Weird as my feet are swollen and my knees as well as my ankles. Can't fiqure out why my leg muscles hurt so bad. Any answeres?

I have no explanations, but my leg muscles hurt alot!!!

the muscles are the supporting tissues for the joints..your joints are swelling pulling on the tendons which are connected to the muscles.  and you aren't using the muscles right now either, or at least very much and when you do you are likely not moving your joints in the manner the were designed to move further stressing the muscles. Thanks Buckeye. Is it muscle atrofie (sorry spelled worng)? Whatdo I do about this now?Have you ever thought that it might be Fibro? Your symptoms sound familiar  to mine.Muscle atrophy or in your case cachexia is a mjaor cause of muscle pain.  You can't rebuild muscle right now...your underlying medical issues are too great.   Personally I think you need to be in the hospital..I don't want to frighten you but at 81 lbs you need more medical intervention than you are getting.

.

Cachexia (pronounced /kəˈkɛksiə/) is loss of weight, muscle atrophy, fatigue, weakness and significant loss of appetite in someone who is not actively trying to lose weight.[1] It can be a sign of various underlying disorders; when a patient presents with cachexia, a doctor will generally consider the possibility of cancer, metabolic acidosis (from decreased protein synthesis and increased protein catabolism) certain infectious diseases (e.g. tuberculosis, AIDS) and some autoimmune disorders, or addiction to drugs such as amphetamines or cocaine. Cachexia physically weakens patients to a state of immobility stemming from loss of appetite, asthenia, and anemia, and response to standard treatment is usually poor.

Hi lostpoet, I've had this problem too, for the past 20 years.  Rheumy's have always put it down to Fibro.  No treatment has ever been offered to me.  I recently had the bright idea to try magnesium supplements but I didn't get any relief from it.   Guess it's just another problem associated with RA that one has to learn to live with.  I'm on my feet all morning and most days I am in desperate need of a nanna nap after lunch.  Are you able to do this?

I also get the leg muscle problem but i dont have the weight loss problem either. You need to get that sorted immediatly. My sister lost a lot of weight too in a short space of time. Her doctor basically ignored it until she saw a specialist but hers was achalasia. Weight loss for no reason is a serious thing. PLEASE get it seen to. My leg muscle problems are in my calfs and seem to generate from my feet.

I have the muscle pain too... my thighs and calves... it's a deep ache that gets worse as the day goes on.. after getting better in the morning....

I worry about you... please call your Dr about the weight loss.

Lostpoet,

I had commented earlier about having muscle pain also, I came back and read some other posts and my concern was buckeye's.  I didn't realize you had lost that much weight and I totally agree with buckeye on the fact that you need seen right away.  I don't want to scare you either but that it is very serious.  You must look so frail and sick that I can't believe any doctor would send you away untreated.  Good luck and keep us posted.

Reegie

Lostpoet,

I agree with Buckeye and this weight loss is serious.  I am worried about you as well...perhaps you can go to the ER seeing as your doctor is out of town.  I think you should be examined.  In light of the muscle weakness and pain maybe they can get you stabilized and begin the necessary testing to sort it all out.  Keep us posted...hiking_gal
Thanks guys. I am compling a list of what is going on and go over it with my MD. Thanks again for your concerns.
