OT my pumpkin *sob* | Arthritis Information

Boo hoo hoo.....I knew it wasn't a good idea to leave my pumpkin for a whole week!!!!

Came home and the vine is still spreading, but my pumpkin is a goner.  It was about the size of a grapefruit when we left and was starting to turn orange, so we didn't think it would get much bigger.  I guess it got too heavy for the vine or something, because when we came home, it had broken off.....and rotted......

So we are very disappointed.   If we had been home, we could have saved it from rotting, I think.  Maybe some of the other little ones will start to get bigger now that is is gone, though.

How is it going for the rest of the pumpkin growers out there?

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.

My pumpkins all died but it took me a few weeks to realize that.  The never got those vines you talked about.  Eventually they kind of turned white-ish so I yanked them.  I planted 3 more seeds which sprouted and are all big and green now.  No pumkin flowers, I'm guessing I'm not making Halloween with this batch either.

awwwwwwwwwwwwww! Sounds like a bad year for pumpkin growers! Bet they are a fortune at the farm stands this year!Mine are ok, I have those little pumplkin gourds growing (a ton of them) and just two pumpkins.  They are still really green and small so my husband and I are wondering if they are exactly pumpkins or not.  My FIL who just passed his pumpkins are huge and starting to turn orange so at least we will have some.  Sorry about your pumpkin, there's always next year!!We didn't plant pumpkins because of traveling but we did plant tomatos in containers and they were doing beartifully.  There were 6 large tomatos, turning color on each plant and then the DEERS ate them one night..........we got up in the morning and went outside with our coffee and noticed that the plants were tipped over.  Not only did they eat the fruit they ate part of the plants, now that's nasty.  Tomato plants taste really bad.  The deer also ate my marigolds and snapdragons.  We're spending the summer in the Columbia River Gorge on the river so I guess I should have expected this to happen.  I understand exactly how you feel.  LindySo sorry about your pumpkin.

WELCOME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw a plant advertized that is supposed to last for 50 years!!!  Sounds good.

Just an update for you on my pumpkins, they were round like pumpkins but they weren't getting any bigger and they weren't turning orange so I had my Grandpa come over and look at them, he is gardens, and he said that they are squash.  My kids were so dissappointed.  They don't really look like squash to me yet but they are also starting to look a lot less like pumpkins.  Darn It!!! Reegie - I bet squash was a disappointment to your kids!  But yummy, fresh squash, that is the only kind I will eat.  I never buy it, only eat it if we grow it or a friend has a bumper crop (easy to do with squash!)

Snow Owl - yes, we still have blossoms, but I'm not adventurous enough in the kitchen to try anything with them!  I still get to enjoy them in full bloom in the morning, though.

LinB - I sympathize with your deer problems!  Something is eating everything up in our yard - I guess it is the rabbits, but they sure are eating a lot this year.  We have seen one baby deer once, a few years a go, but animal control says they are all over the city "like rats" (hard to believe).  I've got apple juice jugs over all my hostas, trying to save them in hopes of a better year next year.  All my black-eyed Susans are gone, too, and they are really more like weeds so it is hard to believe just bunnies ate them all up.
