Well, I am now under an official hurricane watch (36 hours warning) and the durn cone shows it making landfall right on top of me early Tuesday am.  Charlie hit 60 miles north of us, and the other one 20 miles south of us (I forget all the names, we got brushed and prepped for 7 hurricanes in 22 months).

Since then we bought ,000 worth of see through Kevlar hurricane shutters, so with our strapped on roof, poured concrete bunker, we just hunker down and pray.  The two that were close we could barely hear a thing and just lost electricity for a few days.  The real work was all the relief efforts and cleanup afterwards - amazing how people pull together.

So, today its all the prep again - food, gas, water, supplies, cash.  Wish us luck - it looks like its going to go right up the southern coast of Florida - like Mynmar was just hit with that typhoon, tore right through the middle of the whole country.

Maybe it will take out the 12,000 empty, looted homes in inventory around here so the real estate depression lifts - that was a very, very, very bad thought - smack me.

Hi Cathy - I hope it lessens before it hits land - and that it misses your area.  It seems like FL hurricane season gets worse every year.    My mom in on the east coast (Palm Bay) and she's had a tough time the last few years.  Took her about 2 years to get roofing, mold repaired, etc. after Frances and Jeanne hit her area.  My sister in Tequesta was so fed up after those two that when a 3rd one popped up to hit the area, she flew to NY so she wouldn't have to deal with it.

I hope it steers clear of you, JSNM....   glad you are prepared though.

where are you in FL?

One of the options for my husband's transfer is Miami...  (and TX)... hurricanes.. .or tornados......  yuck.
Hoping for the best! Please let us know how you make out!Naples - Ground Zero for last 24 hours - the best guess where it will come after hitting the Keys.  I just looked at all the maps, and the first outer bands could be here soon, as they are close to Miami and that's only 90 miles away.  We are putting up the shutters, as the wind is already picking up.  We are under a hurricane warning (36 hours or less til it gets here), and its coming.  I am running (HA HA HA) to the grocery store, and hopefully we can all get through work tomorrow.  Take care ~~ CathyHi Cathy, We're just a few miles north of you, in Riverview. I'm going out to get supplies later today. The last hurricane that hit us, can't remember which one, only brought heavy winds and rain to Riverview. But the worst for me was losing our electricity for several hours.  Many people around us lost power  for up to 3 weeks, we were lucky. Hot flashes and no air-conditioning don't mix. I'm making light of it but I do realize how fortunate we were.
Good luck to you and your family.

Gwen
Prayers for you and yours!!!!

JSNM and miles2go - hope you are doing okay today!  Our area was hoping for some benefit of the rain from the storm, but they said it stalled and we won't get it as soon - that doesn't sound good for your area.  Take care, be safe. THe news said Fay is a Storm and has not escalated to a hurricane so that is good news.  Hope it stays as mild as possible.
