Worst flare ever! ! ! | Arthritis Information

Ok everyone I am having my worst flare ever since dx with RA. Every joint top to bottom is horribly swollen and painful. Hard to even get around because  my feet and ankles are so painful. I got no sleep at all. Help! ! ! It's frustrating as all get out.  I was doing so good. I was getting used to the mtx and placquenil and I am tapering off the prednisone. I may have overdid it yesterday or stress from husband issues.  I go back to RD in 2 weeks will she place back on prednisone until the mtx and placquenil start doing there work or will I just have to live with these  (hopefully the only one like it) flares? Thanks in advance for thoughts on this.

First off, you need to call your RD Monday morning.  She may place you back on Pred. till the meds start to work.  Don't let this flare go for 2 weeks till your appt.  Also, ask for something for pain.  She'll probably give you Tramadol/Ultram but it's better than nothing at all.  I'm so sorry that this has hit you but you know how important it is to keep stress at a minimum.  Try and put those issues on the back burner until you're doing better.  LindyThanks Lindy I will call first thing in the A.M.  As much as I dread the prednisone I do feel better when I take it everyday as opposed to every other.

I'd call as well, no need to suffer.   You may need to stay on prednisone until the mtx kicks in, which can take up to 4 months.   How long have you been on mtx?   Easier said than done, but try not to let your husband trigger stress.  That doesn't help, so do what you need to take care of yourself.  Rest when you can - hope the flare minimizes over the next day or two.

In addition to asking for pain meds, you might want to consider asking for a week's worth of sleeping tablets (lunesta, ambien, restoril, etc) so that you can get adequate rest.  Lack of sleep/rest can exacerbate a flare.  You're not going to get addicted to them in a week. I used to try and wait out my flares until my next RD appointment.  The only thing I accomplished was causing myself agony.  I agree with the others.  Call your RD tomorrow morning.

SnowOwl, I was just picturing how nice that would be to lock myself in the bathroom with candles glowing, and me soaking in a nice hot bath!

Yea - at my last appointment, my rheumatologist scolded me a bit for not calling her when I have a flare.
