MTX and surgery question | Arthritis Information

Okay-so I'm debating whether or not to have my frozen shoulder and torn rotator cuff operated on.  My biggest stumbling block is going off MTX.  I am in remission, and as I understand it, your body can be resistant to it when you try to go back on.  I remember the bad days all too well, and I know from this forum that many people haven't been so lucky with their meds.

I would actually have 2 surgeries ahead of me.  One to unfreeze my shoulder, then a far worse one for the tears.

My original plan was to wait as long as possible because of the MTX situation, and the six month recovery for the big operation.  But in typical fashion my rheumy, and surgeon give me different opinions every time I see them.  I swear they have no clue that they do that!

Anyhoo...opinions?Hi TheLa;  I've been on and off my meds for 3 different surgeries this past year.  Each time, I stopped MXT and Remicade 2 weeks prior to surgery and restarted both 2 weeks after surgery, even for my total knee replacement.  Before I started this surgical journey my RD and I had discussed stopping Remicade because I only felt about 50% better.  After all the surgeries my RD increased my MXT to 17.5mg and I started Humira injections every week and 6 months later I'm in clinical remission.  I'm now injecting Humira every 10 days and hopefully will be able to go to every 2 weeks and then start decreasing the amount of MXT.
MXT worked just as well when I restarted it.  It took several weeks for me to feel the difference.  Lindy
Wow I have no experience in this subject but wish you the best of luck if you go for it!Thanks guys.  If it weren't for my fear of my body becoming resistant to the MTX, I would have done it by now.  The big operation would have to be put off till summer anyway as I would need help and a less hectic schedule.

Anyone else have experience going off MTX and then going back on?
