The worst Dr! | Arthritis Information

Ok, so I have been seeing this doctor for the past 8 months and all the while I have been on Prednisone pretty much everyday. Well, two appointments ago he came in with blood test results from the previous appointment and told me that he was positive now that it was RA and that because of the elevation of the blood levels that it looks to be an aggressive case and that he wants to treat it accordingly, yada yada. This last appointment (two days ago) he comes in and after examination tells me, well, I am still not sure if it is RA or Lupus and that without me having swelling that he is still skeptical. I looked at him like he was an alien. I told him, "Wait a minute...two appointments ago you told me that it was definitely RA and that it was aggressive." He ho hums and I then said, " I am still on Prednisone which takes a lot of the swelling away a couple hours after I have taken it. Don't you think that is why YOU don't see a ton of swelling?" He responds, "Oh yes, I forgot you were on Prednisone. But your MRI's don't show anything specific to draw from." I respond, " I have never had an MRI! What are you talking about? " He then says, "Oh, no, I meant your X-rays don't show anything specific." I again respond, "I haven't had any x-rays, either. Do you have ANY idea who I am? Is that even my chart and if so, have you actually READ it?" OMG! I was so hacked off at this point I told him not to bother, I would be seeing a new rheumy soon. Of course, between this time I have been going through a ton of pain, because I hadn't been released to take my meds after my miscarriage. GRR.

Im glad you have another appointment with a different Dr. and get a diagnosis soon. What a horrible appointment. Sorry you had to go through that

hugs
Oh wow.  I can just imagine how ticked you were.  I sure would have been too.  I still would have waited just to see if it was even your chart.  And if so I would have asked for him to show you in the chart where the xrays were.  Heck maybe they were some other poor souls xrays.

So glad to hear you are finding a new doc.
How frustrating! Glad you are not wasting any more time and moving on to a new dr.! It was my chart..he just didn't read the stupid thing!

Can I tell you how happy I am that you challenged him on every point where he was spouting total BS????!!!!  Most people would have sat there, quietly steaming and complained about it later.  But you didn't let him get away with it and that is about the most awesome thing I have heard on here in a long time.  You ROCK girl!!!

"I am Woman Hear Me Roar. . ."

Hill honey, Thank you! But I can completely understand why most would not say anything. I have worked in the medical field for about 12 years, so Dr's don't intimidate me anymore, since my main job was to read them the riot act.

I love to see people feeling empowered and taking responsibility for their health and their care.  For so long doctors were viewed as infallible demi-Gods and no one ever questioned them.  We shouldn't be obnoxious or untrusting - give every doctor the benefit of the doubt and listen to what they have to say.  But when you encounter someone like this jerk - speak up and let him know what's up!
I know the feeling.

I have been for a couple years with this one rhummy.  Any drugs i am on, i "told" her to put me on because i have bad reactions to others.  Because i had bad reactions, she didn't put me on anything to try until i told her too.

I go in and see her and she has no idea who i am, asks the same questions every time like I am new or i see the nurse practioner (different one every time) and they don't know anything and have to read the book for any questions i have.

Then, i never see them more than at least 6 months apart, i am on arava and they forgot to give me my blood test appointment too for the next time.

Not only that, but i go last time and they say i had anemia a few months before (i have anemia that i have to handle often) and i knew it which is why i took iron, but they didn't tell me i had it, i went by my symptoms.

THEN.....

They also said, oh yah you have liver tests that show problems about every once in a while that isn't from the drugs.  Why didn't they tell me that 2 yrs ago with the first test they saw?

I HATE HATE HATE HATE my rhummy.
Sorry you had to go thru that, I think we have enough to deal with, some days I just want to hit then hard right where I'm hurting so they can get the idea of what I'm talking about. My rhummy is the best he's the only one I can I can fully trust, Now my gp and surgeon, is both the worst.  The gp ordered a conplele heart work up, but when I went to surgeon and she asked and I told her, the gp had no idea what i was talking about.  ths surgeon called me lier, said no doc. would order a conplete heart work up and not follow thur, I told her in my outside voice as the grandkids call it, that I had the test and I sure didn't do it go thur it for  fun of it. Three hours of testing with Iv not an easy one.  The sureon also, down right lied to me, because of that I will never trust another doctor. In my mind I will allway wonder if they are telling me the truth.
Well hung in there, the new one has got to be better.  have a great day.

OMG did you refuse to pay the bill?  If you have insurance I would  call them and tell them not to pay the bill either!!!
My Rheumy charged my insurance for "labs" but they didn't do any labs, I had more time with the triage nurse who weighed me and took my blood pressure than with the Dr. who told me my labs were off but not off "enough" and to lose weight and exercise and I'd feel better. Yeah he told me that, when a year ago I was 30 pounds heavier and felt tons better and had way more energy and no pain.  That could be really dangerous, especially if he had prescribed something to someone not realizing he's an idiot. Is there someone you can report this incident to? Wow, I feel your pain. Your dr sounds just exactly like my dr.  That is so scary. Hopefully you got up and left, without paying. Boy, it sure does seem pretty easy to figure out why he is a dr. and sadly it doesn't seem like patient care was very high on his list of priorities. I wish you the very best of luck in finding a GOOD, no make that a GREAT dr. You deserve one. Wow Schell.  That's a crazy story.  Hope your new RD is a much better one.ugh.. that is horrible... no excuse for that !!!

sorry schell..........  best of luck w/ your new RD!
I think that is the WORST Dr appt story I have ever heard! I mean one thing to have a forgetful 80 year old RD, but for one to not even know he did not do MRI & X-rays, and not know much is just plain sad.

I am glad you are getting a new RD, this one sure took the cake and then the gallon of ice cream! Damn him for taking my ice cream... I hope everyone else got some of the ice cream LOL!!!
I think I would have ripped the chart out of his hands and beaten him with it! Way to advocate for yourself. I am proud of you. way to go! I hope he felt like a total ass when you left!I'd be writing a letter and documenting everything to report to the AMA.  This guy doesn't deserve the priviledge of practicing medicine!  Save someone else from this guy.....  write a letter.  They will at least investigate him...
