Does anyone else have trouble with fleas in your house and on your pet..and me too? We have bombed, we have used dips and shapoos but nothing works. We had a flea problem the beginning of summer. Fleas were in just about every room the cat had been in. It took us a good month of getting them gone. We did not want to use a fog, so we bought some spray for the carpet and vacuumed everyday. Well, hubby and daughter did the vacuuming. We still get a little flea on us here and there, then we give the cat another bath. She got a bath last night as a matter of fact. She has been scratching a lot the last couple of days.

She now lays in the sink and is all calm and mellow and looks like she is going to sleep when we give her a bath now.

Last night after drying her I put her down, and she started licking herself. I was like she just had to follow that good bath up with a good ole kitty slobba bath! I mean she licked every inch of herself for an hour or more and never moved.

Crazy cat! I guess she does not like smelling like coconutberry, or is it berrycoconut? You smell the berry more than coconut, and other times you smell the coconut more than the berry.

Good luck with the fleas!

We have 2 dogs and each moth they get a "program flea pill" and we've never had a problem with fleas.  During the winter months I don't give it to them but as soon as the warmer weather starts, they get their "program flea pill".  I've also used the "advantage" pills and they work just as well.

You need to see a vet and get something for your dog...can you imagine how he/she feels with all the fleas biting him/her?
Hi Lostpoet,

I use K-9 advantix on my dogs.  You can get it from Jeffers pet (best price I've seen).  I have 2 dogs and have never seen fleas, so I know it works great.  The other stuff like Advantage works good too.  Hiking_gal
I just switched to the flea/tick pill. My vet said fleas are starting to become resistant to the usual treatment that you put on the dog's coat and I did find that the Advantage was onlly lasting about 3 weeks instead of four. I like the pill so much better than putting that poison on my dog's coat.  I hated to pet him after that or let my grand-daughter near him.  The pills cost a little more but I think it's so worth it.  He gets it at the same time as his heartworm pill and we have no problem with fleas at all.

I use Frontline as well and never have a problem with fleas! Makes it so much more worry free!I had a bad infestation and called the Veterinary College at the university where I work. I did everything they said and the fleas have stayed away. I use K-9 advantix on the dog and frontline on the cats. I sprayed my yard since the dog goes out to the potty and one cat goes in and out as she pleases. I also got rid of the carpet in the living room (worked wonders for my allergies too) and used a carpet powder in the bedrooms which vacuums up. Thanks guys...but have tried all these. I guess where I live there is no solution other than blowing up the house and yard. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and all is covered even though I have bought the flea stuff Advantage and Frontline, nothing is working here. But thanks anyway.

did you buy the stuff from the vet or from the pet store.  The vet stuff is stronger

I bought it from the vet.Lostpoet....if you read the directions on the packet of Advantage or Frontline, you should see that you can redose the animal after 1 month or 6 weeks ( check) if there is still a problem. One of our dogs had a flea allergy and it was only after the 2nd dose that he came right. Maybe call your Vet and check? It is a powerful chemical and I know can harm some animals.
We are jusy coming into spring and need to get the animals sorted now. Last year was diabolical for fleas as we got a rescue cat and before his arrival I had NEVER dosed my dogs for fleas. For the eldest, that was 13 years.

Cheers

Lyn  I use the same things as everyone else, and I also use a steam carpet shampooer which helps too.  I also shaved my long haired dogs for a "summer cut" which they seem to love.  Our American Eskimo has been a a mass of fleas hidden deep in her fur in the past and after I groom her and shave the hair right down to the skin practically and bath her in the flea shampoo I put the Frontline on her.  That seems to clear up the problem, and she is much cooler and happier too.  She prances around so happy afterwards!I use the K9 Advantix on my dog and she's never had a flea problem.  It works on fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. Expensive but it does work.  We do foster work for our local animal shelter and they have taught us something we didn't know in years of having pets. You can give your pets regular baths in Dawn liquid dish detergent and it will kill the fleas. It doesn't keep killing them so you have to do it on a very REGULAR basis but it will kill them.I too recommend the k-9 advantix..

we have four dogs and four cats... and no fleas..  and I don't even put the flea prevention on my kittens.....

get the flea preventative (like K-9) bathe the dogs/animals in dawn dish detergent (vet recommended for killing fleas when I adopted two flea infested kittens)  and bomb your house.. using a bomb in each level and sometimes it takes more than one bomb per level.. leave all doors open inside... even closets.. pull dust ruffles off beds and bedding... turn UP mattresses...and couch and chair cushions..

My mom had a flea problem years ago... and they would go to the shore and I would bomb her house!!  I should add, if you put it on their fur make sure it is somewhere where they can't lick it.  Aw, but I love cocker spaniel with a little garlic and oregano!
I was just checking out that site...Hmmm...seems like my dogs are both super dogs....they both love chocolate and almonds and both are listed as " especially dangerous and can be fatal"
Oh...found another one that's supposed to be dangerous and possibly fatal...peaches...my dogs love peachesI think the amount depends on how big your dog is, in a 5 pound breed a couple bites could be fatal but in a 50 lb dog, it would take quite a bit. My mini doxie is about 12 pounds and he has had a piece of the bite sized chocolate and lived to tell about it...could be breed specific too, with some breeds more susceptible than others to certain toxins.  Thanks everyone. I had always heard garlic was good for fleas too.  Never did try it though. Now I certainly will not.
Thanks again and SnowOwl you are not a DumbOwl!
No one is dumb, if I didn't have my friends who know way more than me, I would not have even thought about it when I read that post. I just remember them freaking out when they were at my house and my dog got in the garbage and had a piece of onion. That's when they told me that the onions and garlic were toxic and gave m that link to look at.
I think the amount depends on how big your dog is
The one is a miniature poodle...he's a tough little guy thoughPert dandruff shampoo works too on getting the fleas off your animals just bath them like you usually do and it works great!!! Another hting people don't realize when vaccuming the floor make sure to empty the vaccum daily it will help keep the fleas you vaccum up from getting worse. Take the vaccum outside to empty. Spraying the lawn where your dog or cat goes is very good too. I can not put any kind of flea treatment on my cats they are highly allerigic to the products out there so it is alot of grooming and cleaning to keep them virtually flea free. The dog is treated because she is allergic to fleas she must use a special product the helps with the severe itching she gets from even one flea. memeSome pet food here contains garlic, albeit in small amounts, so I wouldn't worry about a little in their food at all. Onions are a definite no no as are grapes in case no one knew that. Means no sultanas/raisins either.
Just as well my pooches love bananas and oranges!! And Nelson adores strawberries. I left a box on the coffee table once and he demolished the lot. But he did spit out all the calyx's.
