Hi everybody,

I was diagnosed with fybro last month and am really having a hard time of it emotionally.  I was diagnosed with cancer this time last year and have been in treatment for an entire year and getting weaker and weaker all along.

I don't mean to complain (even though I am...sorry!).  I really wanted to say hi and I hope to 'get to know' you through this board.

Wishing for painless days for everybody.

Sharon

Hello there, I too have fibro and have had it for a long time. Can be a real pain everywhere. You just have to learn to live each day by each minute and not by what tomorrow may bring. That is the only way I know how to describe fibro. Hope you get to feeling better. Try not to stress that makes us hurt more.

Welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the welcome.  I appreciate it.

Sharon

Welcome Sharon,

We are trying to get this to be a more active board. I have fibro too, just recently diagnosed. I have OA in my hands, shoulders and one hip, which seems to be better lately. This fibro pain has been really getting to me and I have recently been put on Cymbalta, which has helped some. I am trying to get my pain meds to the point that I can still function....know what I mean? And insomnia is a big problem, despite meds to help me sleep, I have never takened (don't know if that is spelled right?) more that Advil and vitamins in my life, so now I have a pill for everything..oh well. So sorry about your cancer, how are you doing? Again welcome, hope to hear more from you.

mindy38638.3030787037Hi All ! I have actually had fibro for 40 years...that means I had it way back before they called it fibro !  The word fibromyalgia was attached to the diagnosis in 1989 by my rheumatologist. Before that, my regular dr. called it fibrositis. A book I read about it listed nearly 100 other various names previously used before it was established that one would do! There wasn't a fix for it then any more than there is a fix for it now. Hope you all feel a sense of comfort to know you aren't alone. While everyone experiences it differently from others, we know it's also different from day to day within one's own body. Uneducated folks look upon this syndrome with disbelief because most of our tests prove normal. This is now a well known, well established illness, or syndrome. It is not categorically a 'disease', and it really won't kill you, though it feels like it sometimes! Here is the best advice I can give from years of living with it. Figure out your limits, honor them, live within them, and state clearly to others what you can and can't do on a given day, and what you need help with. Any sort of stress will make the pain worse. See if you can find regular times to meditate and breathe deeply. It is totally ok to be emotional, and to share what you feel with those of us who get it. Keep moving the best you can even if it is nearly nothing. My personal motto is if I don't move, cement will happen because I didn't! Get all the education you can about fibro because knowledge is power and power takes us out of the realm of defenselessness! Wishing you all the best.
