A Med not available in USA | Arthritis Information

I have been taking Tenoxicam ( Tilcotil) for nearly 3 months and after seeing my Rheumy today, decided to check it out a little more than I did in my immediate post D'x frenzy.
Can anyone tell me why this medication is not available  for Drs to prescribe in the States? I mean, I have had a pretty decent search and it appears it is not available. I remember someone telling me when I joined this site that they had not heard of/seen it.
I guess my reason for asking is ...if it is so great, just WHY are the Americans NOT using it!!
Or...do YOU use it?? Forgive me for sounding neurotic but Im seriously interested in why none of you here seem to have it prescribed/available. Is it because our Specialists know better than yours?? lololol

Anyways, I did not like some of what I read, plus, I had asked the pharmacist last visit to make sure none of my meds contraindicated each other in any way. Well, I am on  a diuretic which is a no no with Tenoxicam according to this link.
So, I think I will cut my dose to 10mgs a day and see where I go.
Dammit that I had not read that before my visit to RD today! Grrrrr.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Lyn  it may be Mobiflex?? in the US?

I see online that you can get it in the US...maybe it's not a big med pushed by the company reps???

Just an NSAID..  *shrug*

didn't look any worse than any of the other NSAIDs....

does it work for you, Lyndee?

ETA:  finding out that there is a problem between the med and your BP med/diuretic.. would warrant a call to the RD, IMO
babs102008-08-22 05:31:27Just an NSAID, but contra indications for people with inflammatory diseases.  Be careful!  Joe there was nothing listed about it being contra indicated for people with inflammatory disease.  Wouldn't it be counter productive to produce an anti inflammatory you couldn't use to treat inflammatory disease with though like most NSAIDS should not be used with Inflammatory bowel disease

Tilcotil is contraindicated in patients
  • with known hypersensitivity to tenoxicam, to any component of the product or to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs);
  • with asthma, or in whom salicylates or other NSAIDs induce symptoms of asthma, rhinitis or urticaria;
  • with active or a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation, related to previous NSAIDs therapy
  • active, or history of recurrent peptic ulcer/haemorrhage (two or more distinct episodes of proven ulceration or bleeding)
  • with haemorrhagic diathesis, as with other NSAIDs
  • with severe heart failure, as with other NSAIDs

Tilcotil injection is contraindicated in patients taking anticoagulants or on intensive diuretic therapy, as with other parenteral NSAIDs
