Anyone had experience with one of these? My Dr says that the RA and drugs i am on could have effect on healing, and possible enhance the need for surgery. Also mentions that because of RA they are reluctant to "cast" for the usual 12 weeks.
Mine went undetacted for 5 weeks adding to complications.

Its a tough bone to heal because of its location it gets limited blood supply. It often needs surgical pinning to heal correctly.
Your meds should not have a major impact on the healing..a bigger concern would be if you were on pred. RA affected joints dont do well with casting. We often lose ROM in that joint by not moving it for that length of time...but you gotta do what you gotta do, healing the break is important too...nd that is why you will have PT once the break heals

I do have a hand specialist, and as was stated, he is only giving it 2 weeks in cast before deciding on surgery if no healing. i will keep you updated
