Hi Everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted anything , Happy to say, I've been doing very well

I have noticed the past several weeks tremors in my hands that wont stop. I was at a wedding trying to "toast" with everyone and was embarrased to lift my glass, my glass was shaking pretty bad. I feel like my grandma and I'm only 33!

Has anyone had tremors? Does it have to do with RA or the meds possibly? Anything I should worry about?

Just thought I'd run this by you all.

Thanks!

Kelly
After researching a litte on the internet about tremors, thought I'd post this...thought it was interesting.

Do you have Graves disease? If so, then you must be suffering from rheumatoid arthritis as well. Graves disease and rheumatoid arthritis are two diseases that are linked to each other. One common symptom of patients suffering from Graves disease is a fine tremor in their hands and fingers. Incidentally, this is also a symptom of rheumatoid arthritis.

Graves disease is an autoimmune disease. It is a health problem wherein a person's immune system attacks the thyroid glands. And consequently, it causes the same gland to produce too much thyroxin hormone. Graves disease is usually referred to as hyperthyroidism's most common form.
post your source  please because frankly people with RA are far more likely to have Hashimoto's disease as opposed to graves and I know of plenty of people from thyroid boards who have graves and do not have RA buckeye2008-08-27 04:40:32I have tremors real bad. I am going to the Dr. Thursday and will let you know what he says. I can't put my makeup on or hold a glass or pen to write anymore. It is embarraing and scary.
So sorry for you dear, truely hope we can find some answeres together.
Thats very interesting, I remember when I first met my hubby (I was learning rock and roll & he was the instructor) and he danced with me for the first time,  he held my hands I thought to myself, wow I must make him nervous, as he hands were shaking (tremors is what you called it, only to find out later that his hands do have tremors, he said its from years of working and the tendons are damaged. What a let down for me

PS my left hand does have tremors, I thought it was from nerve damage!
I have had them as far back as I can remember. In my teens. It runs in my family. My mother has them and my grandmother did too. Mine used to be really bad and like you said people noticed when I would toast or pick up anything. Also at church, I was asked to light the candles and it was down right embarrassing. I have noticed that they are not as bad as they used to be. I think it's because I take xanex for anxiety. Hmmmmm., but I don't take it all the time. Maybe a few times a week. I also thought that it may be because people with ra have weaker hands?????? Too many possibilities.
I find this subject interesting as I suffer from the tremors in the hands when I try to concentrate on doing a few things at once.
Things like cooking dinner can set me off as I try to time the cooking process to coincide with the finished product.

I also notice the hand tremors after a hot shower when having a shave, sometimes I use the other hand as a steadier.

Most of the time every thing is ok, just when I do some hand eye coordination I feel those little tremors start to kick in.
I've asked the Doc about it and he has run all the tests,  his reply is that nothing is abnormal.
He has also stated that it is not the RA or the drugs.

I'm at a loss although I have to say that things are nowhere as bad as when I first got RA.
I first noticed the Tremors two weeks before coming down with RA and actually mentioned this to my partner as I was having trouble holding the Nail Gun.

Personally I feel that it is connected with RA somehow.
You know this may sound funny but I was having tremors in my hands and heart palpatations.  I was thinking it was a thyroid problem that I will tell my doctor about on 9/3/08.  (I have been waiting 1-1/2 months for an appt.)  Anyway, I stopped using salt that contains iodine and the tremors and heart palps have stopped.   I don't know if that has anything to do with it but I haven't had that problem in going on 3 weeks now.   I wonder if I had too much iodine. Have they ruled out multiple sclerosis?  The neuro symptoms tend to increase with the temperature in MS, because the protective myelin sheath over the nerve fibers is damaged.  MS is known as "the great masquerader."
Buckeye: Here's the website I stumbled across: Not sure how legit it is...

Lostpoet and Aleva:  I'm so sorry you're going through that!  Let me know what your dr. says. I acutally have an appt with the RA doc tomorrow so I will let you know if he says anything as well.

Bodak: That is also what I have been noticing. When I'm trying to concentrate on something is when I notice tremors...or just holding something small, wine glass, pen etc.

Thank you all for your comments. It is very strange. Also very embarassing as some of you have said.

thanks Klynn...

that is not a credible source of health information.  The author was correct in that both graves and ra are considered autoimmune.  Having one will predispose you to have another.  But her statement that if you have graves you MUST have RA was totally ludicrous.
i went through a spell a little while back with very large tremors of the hand -- mostly my right. It was at a time when I was extremely swollen. Showed it to the doctor on a routine visit and she was really puzzled by it. It only occurred when I pressed fingers together (taking something out of the oven, etc.) Increased my 7.5 mg of pred to 10 and the tremors have stopped --and the swelling has gone down quite a bit.LOSTPOET: What did your dr. Say at your appt. last Thursday re: the Tremors you've been having?

I saw the dr. last week as well...he documented it, and said for now lets not worry, but if it keeps up in the next few months, he'll send me to get a neuro consult.

Islandwoman: This is so wierd. I am not swollen at all, I have been feeling 100% better for several months now with the meds I'm on.  But as you described, when I put pressure on my hands, holding something heavy (grocery bags, plate of food), is when I see tremors more, and in the right hand more than left. Even with swelling and stiffness I never had those tremors before. Quite strange to me.  The tremors do happen when I'm doing nothing as well but not as bad. Stress seems to bring it on too.

HAS ANYONE ELSE GOTTEN ANY ANSWERS FROM THEIR DR.'S BY CHANCE YET ON THIER TREMORS?

Pretty easy. Get some Thyroid tets done. If you suspect Graves, a TSI test is very usefull. Thyroid Stimulating Immuglobin. Tests for the anti-body. I'm borderline. My sis has Graves and Fibro, me RA. Very common to have more then 1 Auto Immune problem as time goes on
