sorry i'm not on much just now, not feeling to good and the home life is a bit bad at the moment.  I am so fed up with this pain and wanted to ask a quick question if you don't mind, because it's one i can never seem to get a straight answer to from the docs.

When you have a painful joint, ie one that is tender to touch and move etc, is it only painful when you actually move the joint, or is there pain in the joint even when it is at rest.  The reason i'm asking is that i never have pain in the joints at are affected as long as i don't move them and i just wondered if this is consistent with RA or early RA.  I know that everyone is different but i just wondered because it might shed some light on this for me.
Julie,

My joints are painful all the time, just much more painful when I move them. The first pain is an ache, the second is a sharp stabbing pain.

Still no joy for you with a diagnosis? Take Care!!

Hi Julie,  I hope things get better at home.  My hip joints and knees ache all the time.  Sometimes I will get a joint that aches more if I move it, like shoulders or walking on feet, but usually it is a constant dull and in a bad flare sharp pain.  When is your next rd appt.?  How is the baby?

Hey Cindy

I really flare at the " time of the month" as well, awful is'nt it. Last time I had to take a day off work. I could hardly move!! I've been taking MTX for 5 weeks as well, how much do you take, if you don't mind me asking??

Bookworm38633.4479398148hey, everyone - thanks for asking about me, Austin is great but it's breaking my heart that i can't do too much for him just now, next appointment is on 26th October another 4 hour train journey.

My joints that are affected don't hurt unless i press them or move them - as long as i keep still i am ok. I have had pain in my hips on off for years when is a constant dull ache and it makes it hard to sleep at night but it always goes away and i never thought much of it because i never had it anywhere else.  I had it all the way through pregnancy too.  Finding out about whether the pain is constant or not is really really helpful to me.  thanks so much,  I can't wait till i can post more coz i'm really missing you guys loads

Hi Julie

I'm like you.  Mine mostly don't hurt if I lay perfectly still and don't move.  Unless I'm in a flare.  Then it hurts no matter what.  I remember prior to getting pain meds, I'd try to sleep in a mummy position w/arms crossed over the chest.  And try to train myself not to move, so I'd sleep longer than an hour.

Oh...except the hip. That would hurt no matter what.

Take care.

Constant dull ache at rest, when I'm flaring. With sharp pain when I move it.
if I'm not flaring, it sometimes hurts when I move it, and not at all at rest.

Right now I'm flaring, and off Humira and Enbrel, waiting for ok for Remicade.

Hi my joints in my worst areas hurt all the time my toes and fingers hurt the worst in the morning but those feel better after a couple of hrs mostley my bad joint the ones that have been attacked by a flare hurt the most and I have to be carefull moving and then like my shoulder they start to feel alitle better no much pain I think everybody is different but that morning stiffness seems to be one of the biggest things.

hi julie,  haven't been able to post for awhile, but have tried to keep up with you all by reading.  like hula girl, if i can get comfortable in a position and stay that way the pain isn't constantbut any movement and the pain is sharp and hard.  mostly, when flaring, the worst is the horrible wiped out, tiredness and the increased stiffness that won't go away.  hope this helps, it's good to see you on here again.
